Cambodian citizenship
I am seriously considering taking Cambodian citizenship.
Does anyone know a lawyer who can arrange that and had done so before?

Why? Are you of Cambodian heritage?
So you don't have to pay the yearly visa fee?
I'm pretty sure it costs $50k or something. Whatever it is it's a shit load.

pew, pew, pew, pew!
Which path do you intend to use to apply for citizenship... Marriage, investment, donation or time spent in Cambodia/language/ knowledge of history and culture?
I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.

Over 10 years living in Cambodia - that's covered. culture & history shouldn't be an issue - but the language...doubt I would pass the test.Which path do you intend to use to apply for citizenship... Donations - possible.
Investment - don't know how that would work
Marriage - don't want to die as poor man
Thanks
^^For language, you have to be not only fluent in reading, writing, etc, but you need to know proper speech as well, not just street talk.

Have you even read the law which stipulates the requirements, I'm guessing not?BongBongThom wrote:Over 10 years living in Cambodia - that's covered. culture & history shouldn't be an issue - but the language...doubt I would pass the test.Which path do you intend to use to apply for citizenship... I know an agency that will get you citizenship for $25,000. They have been mentioned elsewhere on this forum for other services, and if you're that keen to know PM me and I can forward you the details. The way they do it is by entering you into a Khmer's family book, and then going through channels that way.
There is not always a language requirement; for example, if you get citizenship through marriage, there is no language requirement.AE86 wrote:^^For language, you have to be not only fluent in reading, writing, etc, but you need to know proper speech as well, not just street talk.

That's why I asked which path the OP was seeking, as each paths has its own requirements.

Interesting, I wasn't aware of the language not being a requirement for a person married to a Khmer citizen.

Assuming the OP is a westerner and states he doesn't want to marry or invest, why would you want citizenship here considering the advantages that western citizens have compared to Cambodia? Serious Q.
The 1yr retirement is easy and soon up'd to 3 years... but don't hold your breath.

Never mind
^^Just an out there guess, but if they're from the U.S., tax avoidance possibly? Maybe if you're an independent contractor and don't want to pay the 20-40% of your income while living in another country but don't want to be stateless?

That qualifies one for residency or citizenship ?PSD_Kiwi wrote:Just need to have been officially married in Cambodia and living together in Cambodia for 3 yrs.AE86 wrote:Interesting, I wasn't aware of the language not being a requirement for a person married to a Khmer citizen.
Having citizenship over 10 years ago would've been good for real-estate speculation. Not sure its worth it now given the sovereign risks and higher prices.
Apart from land ownership in ones own name, I cant see much point in gaining Cambodian citizenship now.
