Cambodian citizenship
^^Just an out there guess, but if they're from the U.S., tax avoidance possibly? Maybe if you're an independent contractor and don't want to pay the 20-40% of your income while living in another country but don't want to be stateless?

That qualifies one for residency or citizenship ?PSD_Kiwi wrote:Just need to have been officially married in Cambodia and living together in Cambodia for 3 yrs.AE86 wrote:Interesting, I wasn't aware of the language not being a requirement for a person married to a Khmer citizen.
Having citizenship over 10 years ago would've been good for real-estate speculation. Not sure its worth it now given the sovereign risks and higher prices.
Apart from land ownership in ones own name, I cant see much point in gaining Cambodian citizenship now.

Main purpose to secure investments/business' - I was not aware that investments could qualify to get citizenship; but then - mine might be just too little.Assuming the OP is a westerner and states he doesn't want to marry or invest, why would you want citizenship here considering the advantages that western citizens have compared to Cambodia? Serious Q.
The 1yr retirement is easy and soon up'd to 3 years... but don't hold your breath.
Getting visa and register business will not be that easy in the future, better to secure before too late or too complicated. Look at all the hassle and new regulations in neighboring countries.

Advantages... No more requirement for visas, local fee for WP, ability to purchase land in own name, visa free travel to ASEAN countries...must be more

You indeed forgot one of the most obvious one: 10 years DL validity.PSD_Kiwi wrote:Citizenship.offroadscholar wrote:That qualifies one for residency or citizenship ?PSD_Kiwi wrote:Just need to have been officially married in Cambodia and living together in Cambodia for 3 yrs.AE86 wrote:Interesting, I wasn't aware of the language not being a requirement for a person married to a Khmer citizen.

It still seems slightly needless of course depending what situation the OP is in. Personally I don't need land or a WP. A 1 year ER visa here, $290, traveling to neighboring Asian countries a ballpark fig $100 per flight, visa 1 month appx say $30 per visit, all rough estimates. I would hesitate losing my benefits back home (age pension appx AUD17-18k per year, free age care, benefits etc) for citizenship here @what, 25k + for starters?
Don't know what situation the OP is in but for some...why buy the whole cow when you can just buy a litre. My two bob.

Never mind
Yea, of course it would depend on the individuals circumstances whether or not it would be worth it. If someone were to obtain it via marriage which is (technically) free, and were able to retain their home country's citizenship, then it would definitely be worth it imo.

While I agree with much of what you wrote, I'm wondering why you would lose your benefits from AUS? Doesn't the state allow dual-citizenship?Piston Broke wrote: I would hesitate losing my benefits back home (age pension appx AUD17-18k per year, free age care, benefits etc) for citizenship here @what, 25k + for starters?
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Anyone can get a 10 year DL. You do not need ciizenship.Barang_doa_slae wrote:You indeed forgot one of the most obvious one: 10 years DL validity.PSD_Kiwi wrote:

Not really advantages... No visa fees? OK, but assuming the OP pays 50k doesn't sound like a good deal. Land in your own name? Not really great either given that in the event of a divorce land is split. I guess you'd end up slightly better off but the benefits aren't exactly huge.PSD_Kiwi wrote:Citizenship.offroadscholar wrote:That qualifies one for residency or citizenship ?PSD_Kiwi wrote:Just need to have been officially married in Cambodia and living together in Cambodia for 3 yrs.AE86 wrote:Interesting, I wasn't aware of the language not being a requirement for a person married to a Khmer citizen.

Hi,BongBongThom wrote:I am seriously considering taking Cambodian citizenship.
Does anyone know a lawyer who can arrange that and had done so before?
I can make foreigners get naturalization with Khmer passport and resident book signed by the King, which makes it an official one. Required documents: 6 photos, birth certificate, passport, $25K. Reliable, fast and simple. PM me for more details.

The agency that quoted me was the same agency brought up elsewhere on the forum that can get 1 year visas for $190, which I obtained without hassle, despite the naysayers here doubting it.LexusSchmexus wrote:I highly doubt the $25 000 claim. Take it with a grain of salt unless you know 5+ people who have gone through with it and can give you proper feedback.
Be careful what you wish for, I said it before but will repeat it, some countries do NOT allow dual citizenship and you might risk losing your original passport. Even if the Cambodian Royal Government gave me a passport for free PLUS 25K USD I would not accept....
And about visa free travel in the Asean, it's simply not true - the Cambodian passport will allow relatively short stays to some- and not for all Asean countries.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visa_requ ... n_citizens
For instance, for Thailand only 14 days (28 for most Western passports), Hong Kong still requires a visa (3 months exemption for most Western passports), etc.
