Blimey what a nightmare, sounds like a right carry on.
My posts are just jokes, maybe they're rude, offensive, and politically incorrect. They're not my opinion, viewpoint, idea, or judgement, but they're just fucking jokes so lighten up.
Yes, maybe he ran out of cash. This is quite common in Ban Lung. There's only one ATM accepting major foreign cars, and if it's broken it can take a while to have it fixed. Better bring some cash if you want to travel to then end of the world, or use a foreign card that works with ACLEDA. They have 3 ATMs now, so chances of success are bigger.
And he's not a TEFL-er. Salaries are too low, even for TEFL-ers, unless 10k riel per hour is what you fancy.

I'm sorry, I seriously don't like to rag on you, and I appreciate your honesty and candidness. But, come on man, you bring it upon yourself sometimes.merchantsmutual wrote: I have a penpal there who is a monolingual Khmer farmer. We chat by FB messenger. She is the cousin of my old Khmer teacher, who originally gave me her name in case I wanted to practice Khmer.
I met up with her IRL for the first time during my two weeks but although pretty in pictures, in IRL there was just no chemistry. It was still a good experience and we are still friends.
So you had a Filipina gf for two years, but you were instead studying Khmer and chatting with a girl in Cambodia in Khmer the whole time, who probably liked every one of your posts on FB. You then wanted to visit this girl, "and see the temples," and were wondering why your Filipina gf wasn't impressed? Given the time difference, you were probably chatting with her in the mornings and evenings. So your phone would vibrate, your gf would ask who you're texting at 11 at night, and you'd reply "oh, it's just my penpal." What the hell do you talk about for a year with a girl in a village? I'm not insulting her, but seriously, what is there to talk about?
I'm guessing you met her early on your trip, just in case you kicked things off then you would have two weeks with her. When you didn't find her as attractive without filters, you moved on and starting looking at a dating ap. We all know how that's been.

You know, you don't have to pop a Khmer word in every post you make.merchantsmutual wrote:This is really sad. Why is everyone razzing the guy? I assume he went there and didn't budget correctly or even had an issue with theft. It could happen to anyone. When I was in ស្វាយរៀង for a bit I felt like if anything went wrong I too would be so very far from home.

I find your little ទម្លាប់ of dropping in a word or two in ភាសាខ្មែរ in each and every post endearing. It certainly reminds us all that you are ឆ្លាតណាស់ and doesn't make you look at all ចំលែក. You stick at it boyo - don't you listen to the មនុស្សល្ងង់, I think they are just ច្រណែន because you speak Kampuchea very good.

I understand what's written and am fluent as well, that's not the issue. It's just redundant to write in Khmer in threads that aren't in the Khmer language or news sections. It isn't an isolated case, he seems to feel compelled to do it quite often even though it's irrelevant. I never speak Khmer with other foreigners because it always feels weird to me (unless it's out in the boonies and I run into one of those Indian/Sri Lankan traders as it's usually the only language we share). You guys can go ahead and circle jerk if you want, it's not like it bothers me that much.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote:Hey Merchantmutual, merchantsmutual wrote:This is really sad. I know, I know. I thought it was obvious that I was mocking him.
