Rally $$?
Rally $$?
A Khmer friend tells me that people who attended the HE rally (line number 4) at Wat Phnom on Saturday were given $7 and 6000 reil worth of rice. She says that this was widely known and that a friend of hers who has no interest in politics went for that reason and was in fact paid.
She says that no such payment was offered to attend the Kem Sohka (line 7) rally. If you went there, you went "for your heart".
Is this true?

Sounds like a Facebook fact.
Dig deeper and it'll probably be a friend of friend of a friend who saw it on Facebook.

Yes, free shirt and hat and a flag too. I was actually surprised about the free gasoline.
Last year or maybe the year before that, HE was doing some talk down at diamond island to a bunch of Uni students. There were thousands of students, a huge crowd and they all got an envelope worth I think it was $12.50.

Says more about the mindset of the voting public than politicians.

When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. 14 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.
15 As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.”
16 Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.”
17 “We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered.
18 “Bring them here to me,” he said. 19 And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. 20 They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. 21 The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children.

I'm not sure what you think it says about the public.YaTingPom wrote:Says more about the mindset of the voting public than politicians.
Should they refuse the gifts?
If someone offers me cash, petrol and a tshirt I'd probably take it.
Read a report of CNRP supporters attending as they were worried about turning down the 'invitation'. But hey-ho they got some grub and money for the inconvenience.

ירי ילדים והפצצת אזרחים דורש אומץ, כמו גם הטרדה מינית של עובדי ההוראה.

It's not like they were already there of their own accord.
Would you have gone to a political rally in the UK if they promised a t shirt and a Big Mac?
Don't answer that I know the answer.

Reeks of barang snottiness. An English worker makes in half an hour what a Khmer worker makes in a day.
