He will be in detention until his trial or pre-trial hearing. Usually that takes around 6-9 months. He is facing charges that could result in a ten year prison term.
He is in deep shit. The charges arepretty bogus and I'm sure the government knows that. It doesn't care, and it feels like they are going to suck up any public or international criticism and just throw the book at him regardless. The Australian government will make the usual platitudes about human rights, tempered by comments about not interfering in another sovereign state's judicial system, and will forget about it, secretly thankful a thorn in their side is out of the picture.
You don't spend decades making a nuisance of yourself and having a personality that would get into an argument in an empty room without it coming back to bite you in the ass, eventually.
