So I'm not bashing you. But to be honest, if you move to live in PP and hang around the mini-marts drinking beer with the expats that you find there, I'm thinking that you'll top yourself pretty damn soon.
If you suffer from depression, any alcohol drinking is not a good idea. And make sure that you only mix with educated expats who at least have a post-grad (Bachelor grads are ten-a-penny nowadays and contribute little to intelligent and convivial conversation).
lol, and how many expats in Cambodia have post grad education? Doesn't Cambodia have the reputation of attracting the worst of the West?
Myself and 3 other long term expat friends who are long term posters here were chatting in a bar in PP recently.
It turned out we had 6 masters degrees and a PHD between us. The lowest educated only has one Masters Degree, two have two Masters Degrees and one has a Masters and PHD.

Yeah. All the university degrees in Cambodia are a joke. What's the point in going?Playboy wrote:I was part of that group, and know the others very well. DF was right - no reason to send your KH born offspring to further education in Cambodia.

Actually there was only one drunk among us.
The other three are just heavy social drinkers!

You touched on part of why I am interested in living in Cambodia. I figure that as I get older, stimulating myself with learning a new language and culture would be a nice way to preserve my mind. I also think that $1 given to help someone in Cambodia will likely go much further than giving $1 to someone in the US.merchantsmutual wrote:Depression is often caused by negative thinking patterns, contrary to the pharma propaganda otherwise. For example, if you envisioned yourself to be a great musician and now live in a hut and nobody likes your music, you may get depressed by internalizing the failure. Or if you are poor you may start thinking that this condition is permanent and you are a failure, et al. Will moving to Cambodia help? Possibly but it depends on what you are running from.
That said, I found learning and continuing to learn the Khmer language to be really liberating in giving me a sense of something beyond my life in the States and a constant sense of renewal.

Yeah, moving to Cambodia is a great way to preserve your mind. All the expats there are well balanced Zen masters.
