Never fails to amaze me how people can live in a country, but can't be bothered to read a newspaper published in it and largely about it. I know people who have lived here for 4 years and more but still get confused between Norodom and Monivong; have no idea what CPP is; have no idea what is going on here as regards any issue or matter whatsoever; do not know where Aeon Mall is; have no idea where Toul Kork is or that Toul Tom Poung is the 'Russian Market' area; and have never left PP. Actually have rarely left street 51, so that to meet them anywhere outside of the street 51 area requires a half hour detailed description of how to get to the place (which they invariably fail to find, in any case). But they appear very content anyway in an 'Everything is just shit and everyone is a moron' way, so maybe it's a lesson to be learnt.RobW wrote:Which one is The Daily - the little one or the tabloid sized one? I'm not sure whether that says more about you than about them. I don't know anybody like that. Maybe you just need new friends?RBD wrote:I know people who...

Daily management wanted to change the size to something more . . well . . . normal a few years ago, but Bernie over-ruled them.cyclingqueen wrote:And yet that isn't the reason for its size, alas.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote:I quite like the size of the paper.
Makes it easy to read on the bog. You get pins in needles in your arms trying to read a broadsheet whilst having a dump.

I don't think that's necessarily the case there at all, and they've published a few very negative things in the past year alone (full articles on, say, the business dealings of HE's family). I know they have their lawyers review a piece like that, but that's common practice of course. Overall, the paper may have a slightly more pro CPP favoring, but they certainly show plenty of potentially damaging articles for them as well.ClubBar wrote: I spoke with a reporter from the Phnom Penh post in 2016, he also confirmed me that his boss is very carefully with what he can publish and not. They allow him to post negativity but to a certain extent only.
On another note, I've spoken with CD reporters before. I distinctly remember one insufferably bad conversation, where the American reporter was just railing against how awful the CPP were, and how the government needs to change no matter. He then spouted off three or four names of opposition people that could take over the government, really obscure names of ransom politicians. It was a hard conversation to suffer through, as it reminded me of some ultra left wing revolutionary stance "change the government now!" but with no practical replacement idea.

They have the same attitude to K440 too. One asshat former editor tweeted recently about the 'deplorables at K440' which, while accurate is not what you would come to expect from a newspaper that has a long track record of using the forum as a source for stories.
What is the source of the acrimony between The Post or Daily or whatever it's called and 440 apart from the fact Peter loved to beard them?
I always got the impression Peter's scathing attacks rankled them and set things off on a bad course. I met with the Managing Editor / MD a couple of years ago, and he was positively charming, but the journalists themselves have always been precious asshats about 440.RobW wrote:What is the source of the acrimony between The Post or Daily or whatever it's called and 440 apart from the fact Peter loved to beard them?

Kin idiots talked like they were war correspondents under fire. Let them do a turn in South Sudan.
I'll be happy to introduce you - however you will need to come to street 51. They can't find anywhere else in the city.Alexandra wrote:I'm not sure whether that says more about you than about them. I don't know anybody like that. Maybe you just need new friends?RBD wrote:I know people who...

The tax authorities announced today that the Cambodia Daily has until Sept 4 to pay the $6.3m tax arrears or it will be forcibly closed down.
This shit is getting serious.

Didn't they like Bernie's response? He built schools and stuff.

The Daily's article today said pretty much that. Bernie's daughter in law is quoted as saying they have complied with all tax laws since they became a proper company in April 2017, and they should ask Bernie about what happened before. Bernie added a 'whatabout my charity work' comment.
