Buying nostalgia and the name for 65k- sounds steep to me. Good lease, ok rent, but you have competition and will need to put money in for some time to get it going. Should of sold it out years ago in my opinion for much more. Times have changed. We have changed. The market has changed. Reckon it can eat 100k before turning- if you can turn it. Need to be damned shrewd to make money in hospitality these days.tarariverboat wrote:Felgerkarb wrote:Shareholders, not bosses. No free anything for shareholders.
Personally, would be glad to buy out shareholders a few a month.

Is there a tax debt attached to the business ?
I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.

Of course there is. Not to the premises. Just go into it with a new business license.scoffer wrote:Is there a tax debt attached to the business ?

i agree with some of what you have said. Yes, money needs to be put in - most shrewd business people will realise that but it doesn't need to be upfront in order to keep it ticking over. Yes, people investing need to know there will be a need to reinvest from profits (is it actually making a profit currently) or stump up some additional to make it a winner again. A minimal upfront additional investment could see instant improvement in profit margin. Plus, some of the interested people can improve it without even trying too hard.DF wrote:Buying nostalgia and the name for 65k- sounds steep to me. Someone asked about the rent.
Many said they would invest.
All accepted the asking price.
No one asked about the profit if any.
No one who said they would invest ever questioned if the asking price was a fair price.
65 owners and a business run by a committee, all with undoubtedly different ideas and few with experience of this type of business in Cambodia.
Good luck.

I kinda figured people would discuss offline but you lot go right ahead with full online disclosure/communication. I disagree that people accepted the asking price. One comment already said it would likely go for less.LaudJohn wrote:Someone asked about the rent.

Edited to add. A handful of people have commented and you seem to want progress to go from that to a tidy agreement...when people don't even know what they are playing with yet. Once interest is established, the next step in the process would occur.
Also, one person said they would stump up a quarter. There is not going to be 65 shareholders.

Violet dear.
The person who questioned the asking price did not say they would invest.
You said you would invest before you questioned if it made profit.
The devil is in the detail.
The person who said they would invest 25% never questioned either asking price or profit, key components to buying a business, yet this person would likley control the business due to the shareholding stake.
I am not saying that a cooperative ownership structure is bad. I am invested into one in SHV, but the structure was determined (largely by me) before investment was sought and the structure was clearly defined and it was a small number of investors.
I was just pointing out that this is actually a decent sized investment and few pledged investors have asked questions that and experienced investor would ask and few have run successful bussiness like this in Cambodia. Hell from what I gather, although having been around for over two decades Sharkys could hardly be considered a successful business, if it was, why the asking price? And a group of disparate individuals think they can make a success of it as a committee?
