Thanks for the info, Spigzy, Monomial.
Interestingly, the Panasonic gets pretty poor reviews online, LG seem to do much better.

Electrolux commercial machines have hot water inputs, much cheaper usually to buy hot water from the council grid than using electricity to heat it.monomial wrote:It is almost impossible to find a modern washing machine with both hot and cold input. They all have only a single cold input and heat the water internally. It is a well known issue for those with solar hot water heaters. The lack of a hot water input is very frustrating, and leads to a whole industry of external water mixers that are hacked into the control boards of these modern machines.slavedog wrote: OK, that's all great, but do the front loading fuckers heat their own water or do they need an external hot water supply?
So don't worry about it. If you find a modern washing machine that has a separate hot input I suggest you buy a lottery ticket because you are on a lucky streak.
And for solar heaters You can tap water into a bucket and fill up the machine at program start, the subsequent rinse cycles will use the cold water. All
reasonably modern machines have a level sensor so if You fill up with hot solar heated water at program start the machine will understand that it
doesn't need to fill more. This is a popular technique in Japan where everything is run off natural gas. For convenient mixing i suggest a thermostatic
mixer valve which does the mixing automatically. This one costs SEK230/USD28
