Yeah, you can. Don't know about any of the back fines ........................ but what about when you go to renew your visa next year, or the next year, or wheneva, and they tell you they need bank statements and proof of retirement, among others?kgbagent wrote:On another note ...

Yes, just apply for the ER, retroactive fines for WPs are only levied when you apply for the WP (or get caught)...kgbagent wrote:On another note ...

WPs = MoLVT
Visas/EOS = DoI

The place I went to yesterday said they could get the ER visa as long as someone is 55 y.o. and they don't need any documentation.PSD_Kiwi wrote:Yes, just apply for the ER, retroactive fines for WPs are only levied when you apply for the WP (or get caught)...kgbagent wrote:On another note ...

Not sure if you would exit the country and come back in on a new EI visa or whether you could just switch over from your existing one.
One thing I don't get about the place I went to yesterday is the cost. It was really expensive. Basically $100 per year (in my case 2017 and 2018) plus a big one off fee. I asked them what it was all for and they broke it down into several parts, but it still seemed far-fetched.
It seems the big snag is what they call the "quota". Which means the limit of 10% of staff being foreigners. I get the feeling they are paying large amounts to get around this because many places can't comply with this requirement.
I'm starting to wonder whether it might be cheaper for me to apply online.

Correct, 55+, no supporting documentation required, no need to leave the country, when your current E-type EOS is due for renewal just apply for the ER...simple!palm_tree wrote:The place I went to yesterday said they could get the ER visa as long as someone is 55 y.o. and they don't need any documentation.PSD_Kiwi wrote:Yes, just apply for the ER, retroactive fines for WPs are only levied when you apply for the WP (or get caught)...kgbagent wrote:On another note ...

Remember...You are not allowed to work on an ER.

$100 per year is the fine, do it online yourself, don't use an agency. Your employer needs to have applied and registered for their foreign employee quota for you to apply for your WP.palm_tree wrote:One thing I don't get about the place I went to yesterday is the cost. Thanks for the information... Why would I have to pay a fine for 2018? I thought the deadline was March or something.
The problem is my employer is way over the quota. It's nowhere near less than 10%.
I could go talk to Ministry of Labor, see what they say and then decide what to do.

Sorry, yes no fine for 2018.
Some businesses can get bigger quotas, id suggest you speak to your employer first before going to the MoLVT, if they're over their quota and employing people without valid WPs, then they are breaking the law, but you'll be the one with the most to lose if you're caught.

Who will be forced out? What is purpose of these changes? Who are targets? 52 pages. Can someone explain it to me in 2 lines? Will the Nigerian drugdealers go or be allowed to stay?
As I think about it, it seems to me like the agency may be trying to take advantage. When I called them on the phone, they said they could do it for X amount (which was no small amount). Then when I got there they said X amount plus $200 (for 2017 and 2018). The total amount is quite high.PSD_Kiwi wrote:Sorry, yes no fine for 2018.

If I do end up going the agency route I'd probably shop around first.
Thanks for the advice about not going to the MoLVT.... Part of the problem actually is that my employer so far has refused to even recognize that I need a work permit. They just say that "we called other places and they say you don't need one. Here- call this travel agency." I'd prefer to be legal if possible but it will require further negotiations with them.
What would I stand to lose? Is this the $10 per day fine?you'll be the one with the most to lose if you're caught.
