Are a lot of people staying here on 3 month extensions? I guess they would have to do monthly visa runs now?Edwardo wrote:That'll get people crapping their khakis.

I imagine the digital nomad types have been doing 3 month extensions since the yearly visa extension requirements crackdown. What they do now may depend on how diligent the Immigration Ministry is on checking the validity of the provided letters of employment with the listed employers and cross checking with work visa and income tax registration databases. Sounds like a lot of extra work for a Khmer government lackey, so Photoshop is your friend.gavinmac wrote:Are a lot of people staying here on 3 month extensions? I've been submitting homemade employment letters from Khmer440.com Inc. for years.

They started talking about enforcing these laws quite a few years ago. They gave people plenty of time to comply. I remember people being mocked by some on these forums for getting their house in order. So, no great achievement but I have all my paperwork sorted. Good luck with anyone relying on some bogus "letter of employment" either, they are paying a lot more attention to detail recently so don't be too surprised if you are pulled up and get the toss.gavinmac wrote:A visa agent is posting on the Kampot Noticeboard that as of the end of this week (Friday) people will need a letter of employment to get even a 1 month or 3 month extension.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Not really, in fact is it possible even now to comply, if your employer is not registered in Cambodia, you're self-employed, volunteering, living on family money, etc, etc? They gave people plenty of time to comply.

Be interesting to see if true as the agent who posted this information has a fairly dubious record of posting accurate information on "updates" , often quickly backtracking when wrong (although if you make any criticism towards her on the Kampot Noticeboard you will swiftly be chopped). Usually it seems this is to drum up business so people rush to get the visa before the deadline and then it turns out nothing happens.gavinmac wrote:A visa agent is posting on the Kampot Noticeboard that as of the end of this week (Friday) people will need a letter of employment to get even a 1 month or 3 month extension.
Just last week she was promising some unemployed barang who had heard you needed documents to get a years visa that he didn't have, that she would be able to sort it out no problem. So I'd take it with a pinch of salt what she says.
However as mentioned it seems from the other Visa forums a lot of people who didn't qualify for the 1 year or 6 month have been living off the 3 month visa so potentially will impact a lot - especially in places like Kampot and Sihanoukville where a high percentage of people live off causal labour.

I just called an agent in PP that confirmed this. I was told they cannot under any circumstances extend any E visa (ordinary) without work contract / and other paperwork. They said Tourist visa can still be extended one month. This is going to fuck with a lot of plans for a lot of people who are here for legitimate reasons yet are falling through these thoughtless gaps by immigration.

People have been getting full extensions with marriage certs and supporting documents, hope this still stands. Otherwise there's still the C visa route for those with government working spouses.

looks like you are going to have to get some legitimate paper-work to accompany those legitimate reasons.kansaicanuck wrote:This is going to fuck with a lot of plans for a lot of people who are here for legitimate reasons yet are falling through these thoughtless gaps by immigration.

Are the three month visas that people have been using multiple entry or single entry?
If this new requirement is enforced, I wonder how it will affect all of those that do work with NGOs, etc, that fly in and work for three-six months, but don't "live" here and are paid back home.
Are there any education visas? Most countries offer those, so people sign up for language classes at a university to qualify.
