Bad stuff has been said of both over the years, but looks like Shitsville has been saved by the bell. Just spent a couple of days here after an absence of 3 years. Have never really liked the place. In the quietest of low season months, there's plenty of life? Chinese life.
Casinos in full swing. High rise buildings going up from Victory Hill to Otres. Chinese shops, bars and restaurants opening up.
Already dubbed as the new Macau by the locals. Is it all bad?
Work for those who want it- casinos, building, massage, drivers etc etc. Land prices increasing too, another benefit for the locals. The Chinese have the clout to turn this dive around, and are doing so.
Chinese and the Sihanoukville economy
Trickle down economics?
You'll be told only Chinese are employed. Full stop.

Money can never be wrong. And You get used to the Chinese after a few years. If SHV now becomes a Chinese Protectorate with street signs in Chinese
and everyone speaking some Mandarin I might be able to convince the Mrs that we should visit frequently. Immediately needed is a 50 story casino with
neon Chinese characters flashing on the roof and all menu prices ending in 8. And please put more noodle dishes on the menu and a cup noodle vending
machine on every floor in the hotels.
