Chinese VoIP scams.
Chinese VoIP scams.
I see lots of news stories about "VoIP scam" relating to Chinese nationals who have all been busted but they never mention details of the supposed scam.
I know what VoIP is and I know there are various scams - pyramid selling, phishing etc but which one are all these Chinese supposedly doing?
Is the VoIP just a tool. So you could call it Skype scam!
Can someone explain it in simple terms (so violet can understand it).
Cheers.

I've always thought of all the casinos going up more as a version of Bitcoin than VOIP scams ?
ie, getting dirty money out of China ?
A barang in a bar once showed me a Chinese dealer lady on his smart phone from one of these operations.
If online gambling is illegal in China could the odd dodgy operator effectively do what they want with your account balance ?

I'm making a fortune. I've got bigger tits than any Chinese woman ever born.
I think it's a misnomer to call any Chinese arrested with a load of computers and SIM cards a "VoIP scam".
Online gambling maybe or boiler room scam. Don't blame the protocol. Just call it an internet scam.
No sympathy for these mugs who get scammed. They're often as greedy as the bosses of the scam. The only caveat is old or vulnerable people and they should have their phones confiscated, along with their driving licences.

Sexual blackmail or they pose as the Police and say they've found a plot to scam you so send your bank balance to XZY account before it gets stolen and we'll look afetr it.
Lots of Taiwanese involved scamming Mainland Chinese and then squeaking when they get deported to China. The last lot they returned to Taiwan got released without charge, so now it's Chinese chokey for them.
Then "VoIP scam" is a bit misleading.
"Scam using VoIP and other communication applications" is a bit dull.
It used to be called telephone scam or confidence tricksters.

Surprising if these are still successful, they are so well known in China.
A big one recently was lending money to young women in China. As collateral, the women would have to submit nude photos of themselves.
These would then be published on tinternet on default.

Dozens of types of scams. Many where they claim to be government officials or police.

I believe the voip (voice over ip) bit refers to their callout equipment that spoofs government, police, and/or prefix numbers in a potential victims area in order to gain the confidence, as noted above, of said victim. More and more reports of people having their own phone numbers show up on their mobiles, as in calling themselves, are being reported, the longer this goes on.
Also there's this:
Also there's this:

^ Right got it. That was my main question as to why the VoIP thing which makes sense them tricking the people with fake numbers.
Although I'm not sure how your number coming up on your own phone would work.

I am not sure how it happened but in another country I had a call on one of my phones from another of my phone numbers....i was right next to the other phone when it happened. The phone wasn't calling me. Cloned number?
