If you leave what looks like a wallet unattended, outdoors, in an an airport parking lot, almost anywhere in the world, there's a good chance the next person who walks by is going to steal it. The only place you'd likely get that wallet back is in Canada.slapnuttsjan wrote:

Or Japan.
Saying that, I left my bag with passport inside on a train in Belgium once. I actually got it back a few months later.

I left my 300 USD rain/wind jacket on a Mekong Express Van last year. It was strapped to my backpack and probably fell off.
I was traveling from Phnom Penh to Battambang and didn't notice until I got to my hotel (stupid and careless, i know) I got the receptionist to call Mekong Express and they said they will try to find it. As i was leaving for Siem Reap the next day my hopes where low.. But next morning she called again and they said they found it and would transport it to Siem Reap next day. After arriving in Sieam Reap I went to their office and was told my jacket is in Poipet, but will be on a night bus to Siem Reap and I could pick it up next morning. Went back next morning and nothing.. They made some calls and said sorry, but your jacket is lost. Oh well..
I was traveling to the highlands in Laos some days later, and really needed a good jacket so I went back one more time the day before my flight to Laos. After some calls again they said my jacket is back in Phnom Penh, and they will put it on a night bus that arrives in the morning. Went back 3 hours before my flight, and lo and behold there it is laying on the counter. I'm still impressed by it and really surprised I got it back. I didn't even have to promise a reward but gave the girls at the office some for their troubles. And have only good words to say about Mekong Express!

If I'm traveling and someone wants to steal my passport, credit card or cash, they'd have to cut my balls off.

Do married couples always keep their passports together? Why? Why don't they each hold their own passports and then one of them also holds the baby passport?

I can't really speak for every other married couple on the planet but in our case we do... I guess we do so because it's easier having everything in one place, and before this weekend, it never caused us any troubles.gavinmac wrote:Do married couples always keep their passports together?

You might be right but I actually think that, in most cases, people would bring the passports to a lost and found or a police station. They could even send them back to the owners, since their address is likely inside.
What is typical to Cambodia is the fact that the person who found our case most likely chucked our passports in the trash upon realising that there wasn't any money with them (I'm thinking this is more likely than the people selling the passports to a crime syndicate/black market).

Not in most cases worldwide. In most cases in Canada.slapnuttsjan wrote: You might be right but I actually think that, in most cases, people would bring the passports to a lost and found or a police station.

I left my Passport /ccards/cash etc in the back of a ponchentong airport years ago. I freaked out as I arrived at Central Market and relaised what had happened and jumped a moto back to the airport. The Taxi rank walkie talkied the taxi driver who was having lunch , he checked his car and said yes I have found it wait there. He came to the airport, insisted I check everything and shyly accepted a hefty tip.
The taxi driver licenses at the airport are worth more than them scoring some small items.
Tuk tuks I am not so sure.......
good luck with it.

You can get a cool "novelty passport" or "camouflage passport" on this website from defunct countries or non-countries like "British Honduras" "Northern Ireland" "Puerto Rico," etc. Any name, any photo. $175. I'm guessing there are sites that sell them for less, I haven't shopped around that much.

I wonder what would happen if I rocked up at the Pochetong and tried to cross with one of these.
Can you even use these to check into hotels or rent motorbikes if there's no visa in them? I'm just wondering how someone can get their $175 worth out of them. The supposedly "legitimate" use for them is "fooling terrorists if your airplane is hijacked and they demand who all the Americans are" or something like that.

Nope... I have an appointment at the Office of the Canadian Embassy this Thursday so I'm waiting until then to officially admit defeat. That being said, things aren't looking good.Master Donut Baker wrote:so did ya get your canadian passports back?
