The stupidification process of young people in Cambodia must be reaching peak level.
I have stopped trying to read posts of young people in my news feed. The mixture of English, Romanised Khmer, and abbreviated romanised Khmer is baffling.
Here are some examples.
I can barely make sense of any of it and just unfollow. Previously I thought this garbled language was due to most phones not having Khmer script... but that’s not the case anymore. Are we stuck with this nonsense?
41 41 41
(Apparently this means ‘please share’ the word for 40 sounds a little like the Khmer version of ‘share’ - so...share one share one)

Come on why do you call it stupidification, If you speak khmer it's not so hard
to figure it out. In the first one there's probably a couple names abbreviated,
also like tt probably means teak-tong i.e. to communicate and so on.

Lol. You say it’s not hard to figure out. Yet you are only able to say tt is ‘probably...’florian wrote:Come on why do you call it stupidification, If you speak khmer it's not so hard

I speak Khmer. Admittedly I do struggle a bit with reading romanised Khmer.
However the proof to me was that on occasion I have asked a couple of Khmer folk what a Facebook post says and they have said ‘not sure... maybe they mean this...’
It is a dopey method of communication if a significant number of the audience can’t be sure what you mean.

I am Khmer-American, and dear god, I hate romanticized Khmer. I don't understand it neither.
Thai kids never text their language in romanticized-script. I wish Khmer kids could be more nationalistic like their Thai counterparts and stop using romanticized-script other than for texting the English language.

Thank God Cambodians are not xenophobic nationalists like Thais are.
We should be happy.
Thailand is probably the only country in the world, where people purposely do not learn even a single word of English,
I've notice this whenever I go to Thailand, even people working directly with foreigners such as tickets sales etc
will on purpose not speak a word of English. In every other country I've been people working with foreigners
will at least learn the very basic words just out of respect for the other person. Not Thais.

If you do not understand it, it is probably not directed at you or you are in the wrong age/demographic.
Told my Dad words to the effect, for years.

Those fucking Asians eh?
They don't even know the difference between Romanisation, like Pin Yin Chinese and romaticization which basically some script writer invented about telling lies, like America winning in Vietnam.
Never mind, you can all go home soon.
