I cannot verify anything of the above, but I did see a copy of a draft of the contract (to be signed on 24 July), and Jon's wife sure enough sold 50% of the business for $15k. The above info is a little off, as (according to the contract) she still maintains 50% of the old business, as well as the new business.Did you hear anything recently about Mr. Simon Elliot, owner of Brooklyn Pizza Bistro, going behind the back of Jon The Baker at Aussie Gourmet, and buying the bakery out from under him in a deal with Jon’s wife of 14 years (2 kids together).
I heard he made her an offer she couldn’t refuse! Paid all of $15k for a business worth minimum $200k, and then offered her a share in the new Aussie Gourmet Cafe he opened next to his Brooklyn restaurant. This Simon knows Jon personally from what I’ve heard, then goes and steals his business behind his back.
I understand Jon came down one day to go into his office, and there’s Simon’s partner, Chris(?), sitting at Jon’s desk going thru his computer. Jon says “who the fuck are you?" this guy Chris replied, “I’m the new owner”. Shit hit the fan, Jon ended up having to move out, as his wife went psycho on him and was physically abusive. He took his computer with him, and then got hit with a lawsuit by Mr. Simon for theft of property (his own fucking property).
Jon is dumbfounded how this happened. His wife had been getting more distant recently and going out a lot, clubbing, avoiding her children, and spending money like nuts.
So, now Jon is out on his ass, trying to sue. He got an injunction on the sale of the business, but he had put everything in her name, so there’s not much luck IMO. He never thought his wife of 14 years would do something like this.
If this happened back in jo'burg, I can tell you it would not have gone down so easily for this guy.
Maybe people need to understand how scummy this guy is, and stay far away.
It certainly appears that Simon did everything legally, but, he took advantage of a rocky relationship, and he knew that it was Jon's business and equipment that he was purchasing, and didn't speak one word of this to him. Apparently that bakery does tens of thousands in wholesale sales every month, and Simon really made off well.
Does anyone know more about this situation?
Let this be a lesson to everyone about putting things in your wife's name, even after a long relationship, kids, etc.
