I know man. Thats why I saw misses Wong here and Mrs Chong there during the Chinese new Year.
Oldmariner, DHL is usually very serious about their business. And indeed they are owned by Deutsche Post. As a matter of fact corporate HQ is based in Germany. Never ever had any issue with them. Looks like you talk bollocks. They can deliver door to door provided that you chose that option (DDP = delivered duty paid) as they will take into account customs duty to be paid in Cambodia and charge you upfront. If Oldfart chose DUP (delivered duty unpaid) as is cheaper, then show up, pay the duties and ask them to deliver to your hut.

Sorry to hear that Oldmariner. I used FedEX to send documents from Washington DC to PP. Not only was it very quick, they delivered to my apartment. I was in shock and it makes me wondered why Meal Temple can't get their shit together. When I called DHL, they are more expensive and I couldn't get any answers from them. Live and learn buddy.
Numbnuts all grown up
I've used DHL several times over the years in Siem Reap.
While I've found the service has its Cambodiaisms I've found them pretty good. They won't pick up or deliver to my house which is 10 minutes from town.
Documents were easy, when I purchased a Pool Chlorinator a 20 months ago, the duty I paid was pretty much exactly what I anticipated, about 20% of the invoice value. They should be including freight as part of the value, but didn't so I was happy.
DHL like most Customs Brokers go off the invoiced value.

Tilbert: In the past I did import/export as a business from SEA to America so know my shipping companies. DHL has gone way downhill. I have a local address and paid for door-to-door including customs paperwork. We have now had to sign about a dozen papers including my passport and my friends ID card and we still haven't got the packages. Plus we had to pay the too high customs duty that Speedex set up with corrupt customs. Welcome to Scambodia.
The fly-by-night subcontractor is Speedex and they are a dishonest company. With a major company like DHL and the price they charge, you would expect the service you pay for, not with DHL(Cambodia). They are a scam and the parent company could care less. Do yourself a favor, do not ship with DHL. You may get good service once, but eventually you will get screwed.

BTW/ Our duty/vat/etc came to 58% when it should have been 40%. Speedex and some corrupt customs drone got this weeks beer money.
That's poor service.
On the other hand I've used DHL dozens of times both in PP and Vientiane, never had problems or been hit up for import tax, even on items costing $2K. I even import kava from Fiji which comes as very dubious looking vacuum packed bricks of brown powder, and customs have never raised an eyebrow.
In Vientiane I live 2km down a series of rocky dirt roads with no address other than the village name, and DHL still deliver to my door - they call me and ask directions using coconut trees and rice fields as landmarks.
