Fair enough. Very pretty. As golfers we look at the condition of the tee boxes, fairways, bunkers and of course the greens when judging the golf course. We don't spend much time on our hands and knees counting cracks in the clubhouse flooring as one gentleman seems to do. He is probably much more at home outside Neil's minimart ogling the girls he can't afford.Lucky Lucan wrote:As I have already said, I know nothing about golf or golf courses. Just what Phnom Penh needs... a new golf course

I have an eye for detail, while you seem to be just a crass sex tourist, no matter how hifalutin you want to appear. Nothing really wrong with that but it's funny that all your references to the capital are within a stones's throw of the "world class" Lux Hotel on 136. That might impress the local hookers but the rest of us not so much.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Some people come here and like to pretend that they're ex SBS or SAS, maybe there are a few that want to pretend that they are world class golfers.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote:The course is in excellent condition.

I have played on at least half a dozen better courses in the UK - and I’m not really a well travelled golfer.
The clubhouse is vast and soulless. Like many buildings here it is unnecessarily large
It’s far from world class. This guy Montkiara clearly doesn’t know what he is talking about.

It takes much more than the course being in good condition to make it ‘world class’.Montkiara wrote:Fair enough. Very pretty. It’s a pleasant course in good nick. No more than that.
You seem to be very easily pleased. Are the girly bars ‘world class’ too?

Pool, arm wrestling or darts don’t count. Pattaya trademarked “ Fun City “, keep up We couldn’t compete with the druggy/paedo haven back then but still at least the hipster and hostess bars demonstrates PP is rebranding Give me beers, pizza and a movie in the old Martinis any day of the week to that shite, closest thing to the bar out the Star Wars movie I’ve ever experienced, brilliant.Lucky Lucan wrote:I'm pretty good at pool, on the rare occasions I play, if that counts as sport. I'm also pretty sure the title a "sleazepit of the lowest order" has been trademarked by your manor, Pattaya? What are these "good bars" that have closed? Classy joints?rl66 wrote:The only reason I ever went to Phnom Penh was for a weeks drinking and entertainment session in a sleazepit of the lowest order interspersed with 4 rounds of golf to sober up, it was fantastic even if the quality of the 2 old courses were shite. The nightlife was good then so we could put up with the crap courses. Sadly the good bars have closed and the new courses exemplify what's wrong with the country.
Have any of you lot ever excelled at sport anyway, sport has never been a big topic on this forum.
We did used to start with afternoon cocktails in Raffles, I’d hate to give the wrong impression.

Only homos fly all the way down to Cambodia just to play golf. They probably tell you I am staying at my $300 a night hotel and spend most of the day in the swimming pool because outside is too hot.Montkiara wrote:With one or two exceptions among the honourable members of this forum, the level of knowledge about the pleasures of a golf tour to PP is deplorable. Let me enlighten you:
Check-in at the Lux Hotel, which has the advantage that the distance from the front door to the Oasis Bar is about 30ft. Warm up night until 2 a.m. and then retiring with one or two ladies.
Day 1. Wake up at 8.30, breakfast at La Croisette (the breakfast at Lux is shite) then a 30 minute bus ride to Garden City Golf Club, a truly world class venue. A four hour game of golf with your mates testing ones skills. Lot's of laughter and banter with the caddies. Late lunch at the club restaurant. The pork chop is excellent. Bottles of beer served in ice buckets. No, they don't cost $8 each. Back to the hotel by bus. Relaxing massage and perhaps a short snooze or if the ladies are still in the room a more strenuous recovery. Meet mates at Oasis, Xanadu or some other bars along 130 (I like Loco and Angry Birds).
Day 2, and 3: See above. However, depending on age, nocturnal activities seem to taper off a bit.
Day 4: Return to the airport.
Cost for bus, 3 rounds of golf and lunch around $500. Cost for other activities depending on stamina. Perhaps another $500 (some spend much more).
So what's not to like? Of course that's a two years budget for the types hanging out in front of Neils Minimart. Who cares. I don't.
Sounds a bit steep, how much is a round of golf there?Montkiara wrote:

In Phnom Penh
Cheapest 18 hole course is about $50, for the others price will go up to $100 plus - if you can even get in.
City golf par 3 is in good condition and it’s an easy but fun course - $10 for a 9 hole round.
No idea about Siem Reap prices.
Relatively speaking, golf is very expensive here.

I dont know how much it cost. But do what I did. Go down to a golf club with your wingman esp who can speak Khmer. Tell them you want to check out their course as you have friends or clients coming down, take a spin on their golf cart. But you can take a step further. Ask to borrow the golf clubs to test out the grass and ground as your clients are golf connoisseurs. Give it couple of whacks. Before leaving ask for their business card and thanking them you will be in touch very soon.104 wrote:Sounds a bit steep, how much is a round of golf there?Montkiara wrote:

That sounds like a great alternative to a round of golf. 20 mins on a golf cart and a few hits with borrowed clubs. I could see serious golfers really going for that.the chicken wrote:I dont know how much it cost. But do what I did. Go down to a golf club with your wingman esp who can speak Khmer. You should write a book of crap alternatives to popular past times.

What is a serious golfer? Wearing pull-up pants with a t-shirt tuck in? Sorry grandpa I dont see the justify price to pay 50 bucks plus just to whack a ball.
Yeah looks like you are not incorrect, FFS, you can can get Cambodian citizenship for the membership fee ! ( i expect you can negotiate that to about $500!!!)ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: Relatively speaking, golf is very expensive here.

Dont forget about tipping. Assuming you play regularly for the next 20 years. Bars, restaurants tipping a 1000 or 2000 riel is fine, but less than that at a golf club the staff will call you cheap...behind your back...thats probably add up to your signed up membership cost. And oh yea paying 8 bucks a glass for a fucking beer!
