http://nickfaldodesign.com/course/vattanac-golf-resortFaldo Design is creating two 18-hole championship-standard golf courses that will sit at the heart of a luxury resort 15km from the centre of Cambodia’s capital.
Sir Nick Faldo was welcomed to the country by Cambodia’s Prime Minister, HE, before heading out for his first site visit to work on the golf courses’ preliminary designs.
Faldo’s thoughts:
“It was an honour to meet with the Prime Minister HE and I thank him for his gracious welcome to the Kingdom of Cambodia. This is a large site and offers real flexibility to create two completely contrasting golf courses. We believe the Vattanac Golf Resort in Phnom Penh will compliment our existing championship course at Angkor Golf Resort in Siem Reap and further raise the standard of golf in Cambodia, attracting more visitors to the country from across the region.”

Just what Phnom Penh needs... a new golf course
A new Vattanac golf course is coming, I think it will be a 36 hole course with the first 18 open by May.

It would be nice if they used the space to become actual public parks like most major Asian capitals have, Bangkok, KL etc. Pretty shameful that for a city of this size the only vaguely "green space" all you have is a bit of grass on riverside frequented by shirtless men and GavinMac with a zoom lens and a patch in front of the palace. Independence monument/Wat Botum Park a strip of grass in front of Naga, a derelict and closed off Freedom Park. None of which are even close to parks in other areas of the region.
It's private money investing in the new golf course. I agree PP needs parks but that should be funded from the city government.
Besides the revenue of the golf course itself the amount of money spent on hotel, food, booze and the girl bars etc. by a single tour group of say 20 from outside Cambodia is more than most of you spend in a year.
Good for business good for fun.

I would totally pay to see HE tee off against Trump. I read somewhere that if you on Ivanka's thong as a cap when hitting them golf ball you are likely to beat your opponent even if your golf skills is shit.

I don't know about PP, but none of the golf courses in SR make money. A Pro told me a few years ago that it is all about sitting on prime real estate and once Temple Town extends farther, it will be cash-in time.Montkiara wrote:It's private money investing in the new golf course. Yea I think so too. I was at the Angkor Golf last year on the outskirty of the town me pretending to be a tour guide and my mate from Texas as a guest fucking around with the golf cart, it was completely deserted, the only people we saw were the staff. We felt bad before leaving so we decided to buy each of us a glass of draft beer at the bar, it was like $8 each. Definitely the most expensive beer I had in Cambodia.Hanno wrote:I don't know about PP, but none of the golf courses in SR make money. I think the artificial golf range in PP I think they make pretty good profit as they seem to be very popular with the bored Korean housewives.

This is great news.
Anyone who doesn't like Capitalism is a pathetic loser. God bless the USA and no place else.
$8 for a beer? BS. You forgot the single malt chaser. As to the Korean housewives: Yes it's golf in the morning and intercultural activities in the afternoon before hubby comes home.the chicken wrote:Yea I think so too. migs, do I detect a touch of facetiousness in your title?Miguelito wrote:A new Vattanac golf course is coming, I think it will be a 36 hole course with the first 18 open by May.
This will provide lots of temporary jobs, you should be adding it to the list of triumphs like the Iraq War.

That wouldn’t surprise me. Their business model is nuts for here - at least the PP ones are.Hanno wrote:I don't know about PP, but none of the golf courses in SR make money. You can’t buy annual membership, only lifetime membership. Which is something like $25k for the cheapest course. Then everytime you play you still need to pay $30.
Back home I paid £1800 annual membership and got free unlimited entries for a course which is is in much better condition than the 25k course.
If they sold off-peak membership at a grand a year I’m sure they’d get more expats going and as they aren’t spending money of green fees each time they’ll spend more money in the restaurant/cafe.
But with the current model the course is pretty much deserted every time I go.

I was just cruising Facebook earlier, I wanted to check Donald Trump’s profile just to comment something like “get off the golf courses you stupid fuck and send over Mellenia over to me for a night”. Well...I discovered that 13 of my friends actually like his Facebook page...well you guys can unfriend me and fuck off.

I was at Garden City Golf Club for a couple of days recently and didn't see a single person on the course. It's a weird place, the gate is about 2 km from the hotel, and there's much further to go before you'll see anyone on the road.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Did you golf? Would love to go for a round but I haven't seen anything even remotely worth it here.Lucky Lucan wrote:I was at Garden City Golf Club for a couple of days recently and didn't see a single person on the course.
