A young Khmer female, described by witnesses as srasa saaht, (ស្រស់ស្អាត beautiful) bitch slaps a “reporter” for filming her drunk and passed out at the wheel of an SUV.
It was 9:30 pm on March 20, 2018, at the corner of Street 110, and 61 in Wat Phnom, Khan Daun Penh, Phnom Penh when, according to witnesses at the scene, a young girl fell asleep at the wheel of a white Mercedes-Benz LX470, plate no. 2AI-8783, and came to a stop in the middle of the road. A bystander rapped on the window to get her attention - to no effect. Fearing the girl might need medical attention the police were summoned. But a "Hang Meas" reporter arrived first and took a video showing her drunk and asleep at the wheel. Waking suddenly, she jumped out of the vehicle, angrily demanding the phone to erase the incriminating video. The reporter showed his ID and asserted his right as a journalist to record public events. She ripped the badge from his chest, threw it to the ground, and began slapping and assaulting the "reporter," eventually grabbing his iPhone and smashing it on the pavement. Saying he would report her to the police she replied he should go ahead, that she could do what she wanted, could simply pay the cost of the phone. Both were brought to the Wat Phnom cop shop to plead their cases. The woman was seen leaving a short while later after an apparent settlement of some sort. The reporter appeared to suffer a bloody nose and lip, with a trio of scratch marks visible on his neck.
The incident highlights the complete absence of deference to victims on Cambodia's roads where, when an unfortunate event happens, hoards of self-styled YouTube/Facebook "reporters" surround the scene, taking sordid, voyeuristic photos & videos to pump up the likes on their web pages. In most Western societies police will cordon off such scenes, keeping the gawking public at bay. Will Cambodian law enforcement ever follow suit? Or is it just another cultural difference in the many that contribute to the East/West disconnect?

The entitled are arseholes but so are the people who feed off them. What a corrupt, fucked up society. It reminds me of Australia.

I agree, great thing nobody took videos of 9-11, nobody wrote books about tragedies to make millions, no TV shows or movies were made to cash in on human suffering by Hollywood, right?hennessy wrote: The incident highlights the complete absence of deference to victims on Cambodia's roads where, when an unfortunate event happens, hoards of self-styled YouTube/Facebook "reporters" surround the scene, taking sordid, voyeuristic photos & videos to pump up the likes on their web pages.
