I think I'll try it for novelty value. I must try the river shuttle too.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Will try back from Airport next week.
For most times would not be worth taking as it can be 20 mins from my house to station some waiting time & a 20 minute journey when a taxi is 30 -45 mins direct from home.

I wanted to do that as well, grab a few cold beers and enjoy the ride. Unfortunately, too busy this week before KNY.Lucky Lucan wrote:I think I'll try it for novelty value. I must try the river shuttle too.
From the Post's article:
""The train makes it very convenient, because you don’t have to worry about traffic,” said Lee Campbell, a US citizen who works in Cambodia, after he boarded the carriage headed back into the city. “It takes about 45 minutes from the airport to the city centre. If we took a taxi or tuk-tuk, it could be an hour-plus.”"
Well, I wouldn't exactly describe the train station as the "center of the city"...

Where is the poll on how long it will be before the first drunk falling asleep on the tracks is killed? I'm going with Friday, 8-1 at the Olympic Stadium weather bookies. Car blocking the track/accident is 12-1.

probably not such a great chance of accidents while they are running these old, slow and noisy trains. It's when they start running the new, faster (80 kmh I think I read) and probably quieter trains that things could get nasty. Still lots of people living along the tracks.

Took 50 minutes from airport to train station, probably could have walked there faster. Carriage was clean and had air-con, 1 toilet, no drinks sellers so have to take your own beer. Waiting room was clean and has air-con, it's just on the other side of the Nhyam food court. Not running every 20 mins as reported in the media, but approximately every 2 hrs, schedule will change once new engines arrive and will be only a 20 minute journey apparently.
Will post pics and current schedule later

I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.

Well the Post is really hailing this a success:
Capital airport train vexes residentsThe residents of Street 105K can hear the train before they see it – a low rumble, a blaring horn, an incessant whistle. Motorists swerve out of the way, parting like a school of fish. Children scamper to the side. A railway employee, sitting on a plastic stool at the front of the train, blows furiously on a whistle, waving people out of the way with a walkie-talkie. Residents in Por Senchey district’s Kakab commune have fought against this railroad ever since it was announced last year, some burning tyres in protest.
I am on the side of the residents. How dare the authorities run a train on the railroad tracks. The tracks are for walking and sleeping on.
Here are some recent pics of the actual station in the airport perimeter along Russian Bd
Plus if you're wondering how it goes from the airport to the tracks on the other side of Russian Bd
I wonder when the first accidents involving trucks or buses will be reported, it's bound to happen. There's no gate nor warning sign except the train's loud horn.
I have a video of a WTF moment with that train crawling across the road just in front of my car but don't think it's possible to post it unless I post it to YouTube first.
