Why wouldn't a guy with $400,000 - $500,000 in his 401k just live on 3 month visas and fly to Bangkok every 3-4 months? Why would anyone with money want to stay in Cambodia for months on end without leaving? The "mandatory" trip to Bangkok every few months would be a great way to get away from the wife and kid for the weekend and blow off some steam.

Yeah, it reads like some dull imagined fiction. It could very well be true, but the desperation seems a bit out of place for someone who claims to have means?gavinmac wrote:Why wouldn't a guy with $400,000 - $500,000 in his 401k just live on 3 month visas and fly to Bangkok every 3-4 months? Very fucking long too....
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Retirement Visa age for males is going up to sixty in October. For compensation, they will be three years long though with a compulsory medical. Only one year without.
Sleep tight.

How much is the daily overstay fee? My visa expires at the end of this month and I plan to visit the homeland next month so I'm not sure if it's worth the hassle to do a border run.
PS- Thanks for sharing your story twiceayear. I'm in a similar situation so it's good to know I can 'retire' here. I was thinking of asking a charity I support to give me a non job so that I could get a work visa/ permit combo. I'll relegate that to plan b.

I wish people would stop talking bullshit about 6-12 month visas, because they don't exist for the vast majority of people. A VOA lasts 30 days, and that is all most normal people are going to get when arriving, It's a 30 day visa, that's all you will ever get. Anything extra is an Extension of Stay. I know it sounds pedantic but the you might as well get the nomenclature together if you want a useful answer, otherwize it's just confusing.ali baba wrote:How much does the 6 month job seeker visa cost and is it multi-entry?

I dunno what the price will be, they just want to know that you're not bringing anything communicative into the country.Kampot Homesteader wrote:sorry, only one year without what. a medical? is this the same cost of the 12 month extension visa times 3?Pu Li wrote:Retirement Visa age for males is going up to sixty in October. It will be only for those married to Cambo natives. You won't be allowed to work as it will be a resi permit, not a visa. And only for those over sixty.
It's the Chinese system. It's 350 yuan for the medical and 600 yuan for the three year visa where I work. Call it 120 quid with transport and coffee to replace the blood samples.

What about those over 55 and under 60 that are already on the retirement visa for 1 or more years ?
Do they suddenly become ineligible in October ?

Ay, so I have been studying this stupid language for years for nothing? I can't even stay past 30 days? Last time I visited, my visa was for about 90 days.Lucky Lucan wrote:I wish people would stop talking bullshit about 6-12 month visas, because they don't exist for the vast majority of people. Good effort on trying to have Lucky Lucan tear his hear out. But no, you didnt get a 90 day visa. You got a 30 day visa at the port of entry, you then would have gotten an extension of stay stamp in your passport. They are two different things, even if LL is just being pedantic about itmerchantsmutual wrote:Ay, so I have been studying this stupid language for years for nothing? I can't even stay past 30 days? If you get a visa from a Cambodian embassy it has a 90 day window, but guess what? It's only valid for 30 days entry. What this has to do with learning Khmer I don't know.kansaicanuck wrote:Good effort on trying to have Lucky Lucan tear his hear out. But no, you didnt get a 90 day visa.
