Sher-e-Punjab st.130 fire?
Sher-e-Punjab st.130 fire?
Heard from the wife that Sher-e-Punjab had a fire yesterday, and perhaps even one fatality according to whatever news report she saw. I can't find anything on social media or here, didn't happen? Would be a damn shame, really great team there from kitchen staff through to waiters & even the delivery guy.
Seems weird as I know many posters enjoy st.130 for Lemongrass & Sher-e-Punjab, etc. Any corroborating sources?

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Thanks for the confirmation, sorry to hear

The person who died was only 17 and a laundry worker. Article says it started in the laundry. Too sad.

Disasterous news. Isn't there a Sheri Punjab 2 somewhere? Is it the same menu?

It's on street 258 and one of my go-to's (free delivery). I highly recommend the veg momos, the biriyani, and well pretty much everything.slavedog wrote:Disasterous news. Isn't there a Sheri Punjab 2 somewhere? Is it the same menu?

I think it's pretty much the same menu. Mostly northern Indian food, so not the spiciest though (the fish curries have some good, flavorful spices, and I asked them to make it hotter).
Sher-e-Punjab st.130 fire? There fire was reported at 930am. 1 young girl was found dead at 1pm due to in my opinion lax procedures by the fire department, the fire was in the morning 9:30am and she was found late in the afternoon 1pm, so obviously a search of the premises was not carried out in the morning when the fire was first discovered and extinguished, then even after the brigade were called back later in the morning when the fire reignited, they still did not do a search of the building, could have saved her life if a search of the building had been carried out in the morning, very slack operational procedures by the Brigade and probably police in attendance

As far as I am aware there are 3 affiliated/Connected to S-E-P as the owner mentions here https://www.asialifemagazine.com/cambod ... -e-punjab/slavedog wrote:Disasterous news. Isn't there a Sheri Punjab 2 somewhere? Is it the same menu?

I believe they are
Sher-E-Punjab II (which Migs refers to - it was called Kathmandu I didnt realise the name change) is more northern Indian and a few Nepalese dishes (don't forget that the S-E-P team are actually all Nepalese not Indian)
Angkor India Street 278 is pretty much identical menu
Flavours of India street 63
I always thought they were mostly Bangladeshi, not that it matters as long as they can serve up an authentic Balti.

Well the fire brigade here are actually a division of the police, and are well-known for their incompetence and extortion. I've seen them bravely fighting huge neighborhood fires but I have also seen them driving away from a fire because the owners wouldn't stump up. I was disgusted by that incident, which was also reported in the papers, but it seems that was common enough then, maybe they have reformed to some extent, I don't know.stevecz wrote:Sher-e-Punjab st.130 fire? Their HQ is on 360, and the donated engines you can see there (mostly from Korea if I remember correctly) don't exactly inspire confidence. There were reports from that incident at Sher-i-Punjab about most of their hoses being worn out, patched and leaking. Anyway, the victim in this case was found in the mezzanine. From the pictures it looks like the whole ground floor blew up and started perhaps multiple fires. If she had been in the mezzanine at the time, knowing the construction of these terraced shophouses, there would likely be no way out except through a blazing hallway. Even if the mezzanine itself survived the initial explosion, smoke would rapidly suffocate anyone inside the room.
The fire service is obviously underfunded, and it's only a matter of time before there's a fire in one of the 150+ new high-rises that have sprung up over the past few years. I don't think the fire service has anything that can stretch even ten floors - look how difficult it is already for them to deal with ground/ low level fires.

I've been a customer of all 3 of these places since I arrived, without realising Flavours was part of the same group. Sad news. I wince every time I see the rusty replacement gas bottles arrive at my place. Might invest in a new bottle, but where to get them refilled?
This. Very few of these new buildings have any sort of fire suppression built in. None of the one's I've looked into. The massive apartment blazes that kill 50+ people as has been common in China will happen here soon enough, and China's urban fire brigades are leagues better equipped than the Phnom Penh brigade.Lucky Lucan wrote: The fire service is obviously underfunded, and it's only a matter of time before there's a fire in one of the 150+ new high-rises that have sprung up over the past few years.
