I’m guessing he isn’t. I guess the pictures have been shared by the magic of the old internet.gavinmac wrote:What were you doing out there?

A few of those scenes in Paradise sur Mer. Actually quite breathtaking in a strange sort of way. You know like that feeling you get when you first see ancient decaying ruins? But made from polystyrene instead of sandstone.

What are are peoples thoughts on the cleanliness or lack there of in Phnom Penh with regards to garbage, litter ect in the recent past to now?
Has the garbage/litter/grime on the streets situation gotten a lot better in the last say 5 years?
Was talking with some friends about it and a couple guys thought PP is way, way cleaner than five years ago, some thought it was worse. Maybe I have a bad memory but I couldn't say for certain that the areas I have lived or spent most of my time in PP have gotten a lot better in the last 5 years.
There is obviously a lot more trash than 5 years ago with the influx in population but is cintri keeping up with it? They were warned a few years back that their contract may be in jeopardy if they didn't clean up their act.

Well those canals have mesh barriers in them to stop that floating garbage going into the pumps, a lot can gather after big storms. Every now and then it'll all get dragged out into dump trucks by an excavator. The banks get very messy, mainly because people living along them make such a mess and illegal dumping doesn't help either. They get scraped over every now and then too, but it doesn't take long for the residents to mess them up again.kansaicanuck wrote:What are are peoples thoughts on the cleanliness or lack there of in Phnom Penh with regards to garbage, litter ect in the recent past to now?
Most of the city is nothing like that, the areas around vacant lots get very messy, and places where there are alleyways and the whole community dumps their garbage out on the main road can be bad though. CINTRI collect in my neighborhood daily.

That image could be from SHV, what with the multitude of cranes in the background.
When I first got to Cambodia nearly four years ago I was shocked by the amount of rubbish, but not entirely surprised having experienced SE Asia 25 years ago. In SHV there were streams full of polystyrene and plastic, just like now, but now we can blame the Chinese - because we can’t blame the poor victimised Khmer of course.
It has got worse but the population of SHV has probably doubled since 2014.
One thing is for sure. I’ve never seen a Chinaman throw his/her rubbish onto the floor.
