For Europeans, automatic cars are for the disabled and Americans. I hate them, like driving a go cart. I've driven both left and right hand, no problem, but need a clutch peddle for the spare foot, otherwise it's confusing.gavinmac wrote:You can't drive an automatic?

I heard that the Cambodian motorcycle test includes observing ones ability to go around a cone obstacle course whilst talking on a smartphone that's jammed between ones head and helmet.

The first time I ever drove an automatic, when I went to brake I also went to put the clutch in, which resulted in two feet hitting the brake pedal at the same time and a rather abrupt stop, to say the least.pedros wrote:For Europeans, automatic cars are for the disabled and Americans. The problem is that if I did the exam in the auto and passed, then my license would only be for automatics. If I then drove a manual (as I do) and were ever in an accident, I wouldn’t be covered. This doesn’t apply for the 1 year license, only the 10.
Like other Europeans here, I obviously prefer a manual. I’ve been on racetracks with premium street legal cars though, and they’re all automatics; I don’t think they even make manuals anymore. A Porsche 911 Turbo S can do 0-100 km/h in something like 2.8 seconds. As most luxury cars like this (built after 2010), it has something called “launch control”, where you put a foot on the brake and the gas at the same time, the engine revs up and upon releasing the brake you’ll have the smoothest and fastest start possible, avoiding slipping of the gears (you can also measure your g’s in the Porsche, I think it’s 1.1). Sorry for the side note, but I have to admit I can’t shift that fast.

pew, pew, pew, pew!
I found it helps to wind down the window and bawl 'fuck your family eight generations back' at an imaginary foe.
That way, they know you are street ready.

As stated above, it’s a requirement if you want to drive a manual car. If I’m going through this hassle, I’m going to get the correct license so I don’t get fucked if I’m ever in an accident.JimSocks wrote:just get the auto license, problem solved.
Are there 2 types of driving tests one moto one car ? They told me at Aeon that I would have to take the Car driving test to get a moto license, true ?LoneStar wrote:I passed the written tests for moto and car, and passed the driving test for each on the first try. The Cambodia driving rules app is saying that a B type license for a 125cc and under. I thought that a B type license was for over 125cc and A type was for up to 125 cc. Can someone clear this up?
My previous Cambodian licenses where B type and I have been driving 250cc for years and police have not said it was wrong.

Update.
I went back for my test. Was told to be there at 2:00 PM. They were late and started exams around 2:30, running 3-4 cars at a time. It was all Chinese people except another Spaniard and me. It was his second time taking it, and he got called up by 3:30. He lost 10 points for some unknown reason, and lost 5 because he walked around the front of the car to enter, and lost another 5 for leaving the same way. He passed with an overall score of 80.
I took the exam and it’s really self explanatory despite the complex diagram I posted above. Just use your blinker and stop often, but not for too long. I passed with an unknown score.
I should be getting the license Wednesday or Thursday. I am already not looking forward to doing this in 2028.
