Monument Books on Norodom will be your best bet.johntpartee wrote:Are there any in Phnom Penh? New or used books, I don't care.
All of the IBCs have books in various languages, including English, as well.

Aeon 2 has a pretty large bookshop on the second (I think) floor.
I thought it had a much better selection of books that Monument.
For second hand. D’s books on 240 is pretty good.
I mostly download books now, but do enjoy a wander through a bookshop.

Could be, but the bookshop i refer to in Aeon 2 has an Asian sounding name. Maybe Japanese - kinokuya or something like that.Miguelito wrote:Aeon 1 has a bookshop as well... isn't it Monument though?ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote:Aeon 2 has a pretty large bookshop on the second (I think) floor.

Books Kinokuniya - haven't had a chance to snoop inside yet, but looks like it has a much better selection of books than any of the other book stores in town.

The best thing about Kinokuniya, is once you have checked out their prices, you will never complain about the prices in Monument ever again!
They are charging $15+ for paperback out of copyright classics, for example.

Ds has got a bit pricey over the last couple of years to the point that the price gap between their secondhand and Monument's new can be quite narrow. And the place seems a bit disorganised, making it hard to find something you might like. And they are quite tight when it comes to exchange - don't expect more than a buck back for a book you bought from them.Miguelito wrote:There’s also a small bookshop (that serves coffee as well) on st 240 called D’s Books. They have second hand books and offer book swaps and things, I think.

Speaking of book exchanges, I've been meaning to read Burmese Days (which somehow I never have). Would a good British colonialist such as yourself happen to have a copy that I could borrow? If not I am sure Lord PB surely does.slavedog wrote:Ds has got a bit pricey over the last couple of years to the point that the price gap between their secondhand and Monument's new can be quite narrow. You would be right I should have a copy in the library, and happy to lend it to you.
I will be back up in Phnom Penh very soon, once this contract is finished and you may borrow it then.
I also have a copy of, 'Quartered Safe Out Here' by George MacDonald Fraser, also a good read.

Bohr's Books at the river end of Sothearous is probably the best for second-hand or copied books, they have a good selection of books about Cambodia.

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
