PP's Expat Community Blows My Mind
Across from FCC was Touk, one of my favorite places for a drink.

Nice post, Queef. I live in central CA so I know exactly what you're talking about. Political climate here is in the toilet, and costs are getting out of control. It was a good call on your part to GTFO. I've been traveling to SEA for over 20 years, and Cambodia and Vietnam are my fav's. Plan to do some real estate recon in Phnom Penh in May 2019. Do you rent or own?Queef wrote:I have been here for a little over a year (really feels like a decade). Got priced out of LA and SD counties so I figured that instead of moving to a less desirable part of the state (Stockton, Bakersfield, and other dream destinations) where it's cheaper, why not discover something new and move to Asia? Why not meet more like-minded people instead of hanging out with the "bros" by the beach?

When it comes down to driving, I agree. Common sense flies right out of the window. Believe it or not, it's the same situation in Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar... The list goes on...MartyPoppins wrote:"I was told by people back home that Cambodian people were brain dead and lacked common sense. I've actually met more interesting locals than expats "
OK - I take it you don't drive here. Drive a car for a few months and then come back and tell us that the locals have a full quota of common sense. How many times do you need to be rear-ended at a red light to realise that life on the road in Cambodia is highly expendable?
As for the ex-pats - if you hang around in streets 130 /136 or wherever, you are going to meet people who hang around in sts. 130/136....
I drive a truck to work here and it's awful. But then again, who are we to talk about common sense? I own enough rifles back home to take down all of Ballsack lane!
To be honest, I used to hang out in the 136 area my first month here... Listening to the same old washed out sexpats got old really quickly, so I moved to Ballsack (that got old faster than an avocado gets moldy), then to BKK1, then to TTP... Same result. Every. Single. Time.
It's ok though. I found a really nice local woman that speaks fluent English, can easily travel to the US WITHOUT my help, and earns the same as me (no, I do not teach English...)
You guys in Central CA are getting hit really hard... and it's not getting any better. My apartment is provided by my job. I have no idea what the market is like out here...TimeTraveler wrote:Nice post, Queef. I live in central CA so I know exactly what you're talking about.
