What does BHQ mean?
I saw a picture of HE in a convertible Mercedes (80s W126?) driving round Olympic Stadium. Last week unless it was a stock image.
Is that actually one of his cars?
HE’s motorcade

BHQ is bodyguard headquarters. The bodyguard unit is actually a fully fledged army unit that have tanks, mobile rocket launchers etc.YaTingPom wrote:What does BHQ mean?

The car he was being driven around the stadium in with Heng Samrin is likely only used rarely for those sort of ceremonies, probably belongs to the state. I posted a picture of him driving journalist Jacques Bekaert around Kampot in 1989 in a Lada.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Completely off topic but as we came back to PP from Kep on Road 3 the other week we timed joining a motorcade coming out of Ponchentong perfectly . I slipped in the line up and got to Street 240 in about 10 minutes flat.
LOVE a good motorcade.
LOVE a good motorcade.
Rated R for Ricecakes
I wonder what leader has the most ridiculous procession. Kim Jung Il had the guards running next to the car, but that was just for the summit. Putin’s entourage must be pretty badass, and Duterte’s probably doesn’t fuck around. But I bet there’s some African leader that doesn’t go anywhere without being flanked by tanks.
Canada’s is probably two car long with the second car apologizing for the noise.

There were police every 100 meters for at least 15 km at some point, and they couldn't care less I was blowing by at quite a high speed. Then they pulled traffic off to the side of the road so a small caravan went by. There were about 10 luxury SUVs.
But then about 20 minutes later the real procession went by, including the massive armored personal carriers with BHQ on the side. I missed the beginning of this as I was having a coffee.
Then about 30 minutes later there were about 15 black BMWs with a police escort.
Quite the process.
Also not HE, as he was still in PP opening a road this morning.
Was likely (foreign) parliamentarians attending this:

Same thing this morning, around the same time. Was on MST blvd and the BHQ stopped traffic at the intersection with Monivong for about 15 mins before a single police car and three Merc’s zoomed by. I asked a colleague and he said it was most likely HE.

Still, todays's dictators lack....CLASS! They simply don't make dictators the way they used to. I'm thinking of names like Mobotu Sese Seko, El Hadj Omar Bongo (who had a Stutz Royale), and, of course, the unquestionable granddaddy of bad taste - Emperor Bokassa I. Please read the links below. Ordering 60 Mercs for one's coronation is, well, Sasha Baron Cohen material.OffRoader wrote:I wonder what leader has the most ridiculous procession. "In early 1978, Bokassa decided that his status as a seven-star field marshal and President-for-life did not give him sufficient recognition in the world of post-colonial Africa, so he proposed to make himself emperor."

Bokassa was in a class of his own, personally beating schoolkids to death etc. Interesting that himself, El Hadj Omar Bongo and Mobuto were all given sanctuary and support by France.
Gaddafi had awesome convoys. I put him in a different class than those previously mentioned dictators because even though he supported all sorts of dodgy regimes and terrorist groups and had a very tight and nasty security apparatus, he did actually provide his people with a decent standard of living.
This is one of his smaller ones, he drove all across Africa on his visits in insane convoys of SUVs. stretched H2s and armored cars.
Skip to around 5 minutes for the interesting part.
