Taken from the above:
Stage 2: Clinical latency (HIV inactivity or dormancy)
This period is sometimes called asymptomatic HIV infection or chronic HIV infection. During this phase, HIV is still active but reproduces at very low levels. People may not have any symptoms or get sick during this time. For people who aren’t taking medicine to treat HIV, this period can last a decade or longer, but some may progress through this phase faster. People who are taking medicine to treat HIV (ART) the right way, every day may be in this stage for several decades. It’s important to remember that people can still transmit HIV to others during this phase, although people who are on ART and stay virally suppressed (having a very low level of virus in their blood) are much less likely to transmit HIV than those who are not virally suppressed. At the end of this phase, a person’s viral load starts to go up and the CD4 cell count begins to go down. As this happens, the person may begin to have symptoms as the virus levels increase in the body, and the person moves into Stage 3.
And no, I have no hate for anyone with HIV/AIDS. I do not hate gays, drug addicts, people who get blood transfusions, people who get it from any sexual partner, people who get it from needle or other sticks etc., or even babies who contract it from their parents. Just passing along the facts.

Magic Johnson has had HIV for longer than you’ve been alive, and has done a lot of good in this world and amassed a $500 million fortune during that time.Harold wrote:At least Miguelito is willing to allow a discussion. scobienz banned me for simply stating that most people with HIV are dirty and for suggesting that HIV positive people be quarantined on an island.
@OP
Please don't break the laws of the kingdom and please do not come to Cambodia. Cambodian society deserves better.
Perhaps you should move to an island.

(...) If people with HIV take ART as prescribed, their viral load (amount of HIV in their blood) can become undetectable. If it stays undetectable, they can live long, healthy lives and have effectively no risk of transmitting HIV to an HIV-negative partner through sex. (...)

And all he had to do was get infected with HIV to achieve it.Miguelito wrote: Boring? What do you want people to write? But good job on generating 60 replies in a day, just like back in the early 2000’s, right?
A lot of people are attacking me in this thread and it mostly just reveals their white privilege. Native Americans were nearly wiped out because of deadly, contagious diseases that the white man brought from the Old World. Unsurprisingly then, we take the topic of deadly and contagious diseases like HIV/AIDs quite seriously. I no longer think that quarantining HIV/AIDs patients is the most appropriate measure to take although I will happily defend the Cuban approach to the HIV/AIDs crisis. Once again, it was sneering white liberals who raised hell about the so called human rights violations of the Cuban government because they were so wicked as to quarantine people who were infected with HIV/AIDs in the 1980's. Nobody can argue with the statistics. Cuba has the lowest incidence of HIV/AIDs in the western hemisphere and one of the lowest rates in the world. The Cuban government relaxed a bit in the 90's and now they only force newly infected patients to live in a sanatorium for a few weeks and to learn how to properly take their medicine and how to prevent spreading HIV/AIDs.

Careful, you'll have the mods trying to solicit 1 or 2 members a week to do the same in exchange for a few free beers and a lukewarm burger.bipolar bear wrote:And all he had to do was get infected with HIV to achieve it.Miguelito wrote: Boring? Those who begin coercive elimination of dissent soon find themselves exterminating dissenters. Compulsory unification of opinion achieves only the unanimity of the graveyard.

I see what you did there CNN, quoted a portion of the actual quote. That’s genius. We can make almost anyone say almost anything in almost any context like that.Gin&Tonic wrote:What an incredibly unintelligent thing to write. From the above:
For those who are still unsure, an HIV-positive person can achieve undetectable levels after undergoing antiretroviral therapy (ART). A level of a person’s HIV viral load is what causes them to be more or less likely to transmit the disease. An undetectable viral load reduces the likelihood of transmission by 96 percent. Once a person achieves an undetectable status, it is possible to remain at this level provided that the person is compliant with their ART medication.
To be honest there is still a lot of discussion about who is and who isn't infectious. Some scientists agree with the above and some say there is 0 chance of spreading the disease. Even in people with undetectable levels, and on ART, there can still be "Virus Spikes" in the body without any warning. This means going from possibly a 0% chance to some chance. Everyone makes their own choices.
