It's the end of the year speeches again:
Traffic accidents bad, drugs bad, human trafficking bad, color revolution which is totally a legit concern, also bad:
Deputy Prime Minister Neth Savoeun has ordered the Military Police to step up efforts to strengthen security and crush any attempt to stage a colour revolution, as some overseas-based opposition groups have tried to do in the past.
During a meeting on Friday to review this year’s achievements of the Military Police and set next year’s action plan, Savoeun said priority must be given to prevent subversive tactics of political extremists, whom he referred to as “enemies”, from trying to overthrow the elected government.
He noted that the Military Police are not only contributing to security and order but also fight against social crimes and protect territorial integrity.
“I will never forget that in 2008, when there was an armed clash with a neighbouring country, 200 military police officers were the first to help in the Preah Vihear temple area, so it was not just to maintain security and order, but to actively contribute to the protection of Cambodia’s independence and sovereignty,” Savoeun said.
The Military Police also contributed to the protection of the legitimate government and prevented a colour revolution. When there is a colour revolution in any country, order in that country collapses, he noted.
“In the action plan for next year, the military police will continue to strengthen security, order, maintain social stability and prevent all subversive acts to continue to nurture the legitimate government born out of the will of the people,” he said.
Savoeun also wants to increase the capacity of professional training and expertise, in addition to what is being done well today, especially by encouraging officers who perform their duties well and apply discipline to those who make mistakes, while commanders at all levels must set an example to their subordinates.
General Sao Sokha, Commander of the National Military Police, said that the current security and social order activities are remarkably good and sustainable.
Crimes which occurred in the past have been prevented and cracked down on successfully, he added.
He stressed that for the protection of security and public order, as well as cooperation in enforcing the law, the Military Police have made significant contributions and achieved good results in national events, meetings, national and religious festivals, and international-level meetings hosted by Cambodia.
Defence Ministry spokesman General Chhum Sucheat said there are no hostile forces in Cambodian territory to endanger the Kingdom’s security and interests.
If there were any hostile forces in Cambodia or in another country, it would lead to internal insecurity and social security problems, and potentially regional security issues, he added.
He added that subversive elements only want to create division between Cambodia and its neighbours or with other countries.
Yang Peou, secretary-general of the Royal Academy of Cambodia, said that Sam Rainsy, who is living abroad continued to attack the new government.
He said that it is good for the government to be ready and take actions against extremists.
Peou said that the Military Police is the country’s main security force to maintain peace and curb hostile activities.
Last month, Prime Minister Hun Manet said that the government will crack down on religious or political extremism to ensure peace and religious harmony in the country.
Mr Hun Manet said that the government’s policy is to prevent and get rid of discriminatory or extremist views from occurring in the country, with the participation of the community, so that the whole country continues to maintain peace and harmony in the field of religion.
“It is essential to maintain peace and eliminate any extremist politics or points of view that attempt to jeopardise the peace because these cause disunity in the society,” he said.
