Power outages and traffic lights
Are you more in the back? I'm in the star platinum area near the street and it seems like that area is tied into the industrial side of the grid near the hospital and such.
Star Platinum Mercurean 2. Seems to be on a different grid to neighboring areas-I've noticed that before. The whole section went down-it wasn't just my place.

Somebody on CambodiaExpats said that the richer areas like the Riverside rarely are affected by the outages and they are usually quite short. Does anybody know if that's true?

I was staying at a hotel on the riverside for 4 days no power blackouts at all, i was worried after reading about the power blackouts, as I don't think the hotel had a generator, anyway I think the tourist areas will have power, don't want to piss off the tourist,
When I lived on riverside in the centre of the tourist district from 2006-8, we weren't spared from blackouts, which were quite common. For 2 years prior to then, I lived in BKK1 near the homes of many of the elite. Blackouts hardly happened at all and were very short lived.
Possibly been a policy change since then.

Riverside had blackouts also.
I lived near the night market from 2015- end of 2018 and it sure had its fair share of blackouts.
Many short 5-30 mins during every week and then about twice a month or so it stopped for 2- 10 hours.
More common in the hotter weather off memory.
Its probably vietnam and or tailand flicking the switch off whenever they have higher demands.

^^ Vietnam has a coal shortage...
https://e.vnexpress.net/news/business/i ... 46007.htmlA serious coal shortage is threatening Vietnam’s power production plans even as the nation’s demand for energy rises.
Le Duy Hanh, chairman of the Quang Ninh Thermal Power Company (TPC Quang Ninh), said they have shut down two out of four turbines since November 17 due to a lack of coal.
He told VnExpress that the state coal mining group Vinacomin has supplied 2.6 million tons of coal to his plant this year, but another 145,000-200,000 tons are needed to run all four turbines.
Hanh said the shutdown of two turbines has resulted in a loss of 10 million kilowatt hours per day, or VND13 billion ($555,685). This is the first time that the plant has not had enough coal for electricity production.
"We have reported this to Vietnam Electricty (EVN) and are working with Vinacomin to solve the problem. Vinacomin is also looking for other coal sources, but is yet to find any," he said.
As of yesterday, Sisowath Quay appeared to have power from the palace to St. 108. I did not go past those areas. A few blacks back, the power cuts start just north of St. 172 (both sides of the street have power all day, but our house 150 feet away does not. The area affected by the cuts extends up to St. 136 or 144, I believe.
When my wife called EDC they said that it was only the areas (presumably meaning substations) that used excessive power that were affected. That is clearly a lie, as the area we live in almost certainly uses less power than the areas which are not affected nearby. However, our area has nothing but Khmer-style housing and small businesses. There are no big construction projects, oknhas, or large businesses here. St. 172-178, however, have two large buildings going up so they get power. EDC said this will continue for 70 days--presumably until the rain starts. The hours are nominally alternating 6AM-12PM and 12M-6PM, but have so far been only 4-5 hours long.

That is true to some extent, but Riverside isn't one of the richer areas, it's just kept on more because there are a lot of tourists around and the palace is there.dontbeasourlemon wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2019 7:40 pmSomebody on CambodiaExpats said that the richer areas like the Riverside rarely are affected by the outages and they are usually quite short. Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
