ATM scam
A friend withdrew $500 from an ATM in Phnom Penh the other day and got 2 dud $100 bills, stamped “copy”. I’ve advised him to put a complaint to the police, as there’s gonna be a lot more scammed. Some of these ATMs carry up to $50,000, so you’d have to imagine the pile of notes would be laced with duds.
I won’t mention the bank, but just a warning, check your notes in front of the camera.

Many of these reports lately, is this legit?

A couple of years ago Canadia debited my ATM withdrawal twice. That is the only time that has happened to me, anywhere.
Luckily, I was broke enough to notice it.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if true. Bank workers study several years at university just to get a job in a bank paying three hundred a month. Not hard to imagine that the temptation would prove too great for some, seeing all that money all day and the ostentatious displays of wealth from some of their customers.

Maybe. But whoever fills the ATM will have to sign a form with time, date, amount, denominations etc.
Before that the money is checked and triple checked by two other staff, usually senior managers, then there’s often two staff who physically fill the ATM.
So I don’t see how it’s even possible unless multiple staff members are at it.
Surely there’s easier ways of pilfering a few 100?

pew, pew, pew, pew!
My wife saw it on facebook for ABA bank, said people should check the money while they're still in front of the ATM camera and immediately go into the bank if there's any fake/"copy" notes.
The cameras only look at your face not your hands so that’s going to make zero difference - if indeed you needed to complain.

Not a scam, but I took $2000 out of an ATM once here. As the machine was doing its magic, I was texting or something on my phone, and the money came out. Within about 7 seconds the machine then took the money back! Gave me the receipt with $2000 less in my account.
I went and filled out a complaint, they said they would return it within a few weeks.

I feel like this story is missing an ending. It definitely has a beginning and a middle.Miguelito wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2019 2:27 pmNot a scam, but I took $2000 out of an ATM once here. I'll get made fun of for this, but I'm pretty sure it was returned, but am not positive. It happened a while ago and I was heading out of the country for a two week trip and I never checked. So I was going to confirm what happened before I got to the ending...gavinmac wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2019 2:38 pmI feel like this story is missing an ending.
