I wish I was an expat 1.0 that came on a fat UN or NGO or Western company expat salary and things were dirt cheap, so I could have saved $100k+ a year and retire here at the age of 45. Ahh... the badass, tough, rough, good old times.

Yeah, it's much more interesting talking to people who graduated from university last year.Cricket99 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 31, 2019 10:58 pmIt's tedious to the point where when someone outside of my group of friends say they have been here for more than 10 years, I just walk away and sit somewhere else for my beer because they have nothing interesting to talk about except the same stories over and over and over again.

I do have a pretty large hate for most of the new crowd's interests, but live and let live, it's easy to ignore. I rarely run into anyone in the under 30 crowd, which I am glad for, as they can be just as boring, if not more. The point that I was poorly trying to get across is that most of the expats 1.0 are pretty boring, and they are not near as badass or interesting as they think they are. The Walter Mitty Syndrome is riel.Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2019 12:19 amYeah, it's much more interesting talking to people who graduated from university last year.Cricket99 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 31, 2019 10:58 pmIt's tedious to the point where when someone outside of my group of friends say they have been here for more than 10 years, I just walk away and sit somewhere else for my beer because they have nothing interesting to talk about except the same stories over and over and over again.

Khmers don't refrigerate food anyway. We discussed that here:

But, I still think this is a serious issue. Most places will be using frozen products, and although I too am not a food sanitation expert, it can’t be good for products to go from frozen to thawed to frozen every day.

well. I think the OP has a point. I guess that most people on here do not eat Khmer food (which should be safe) exclusively all week. At least don't order cheap Sushi. In fact you better never order Sushi in any country as it should be prepared fresh in front of your eyes but hey. one step at a time.

To modernise the site for 2020 we could perhaps have a self-identifying question on registration whether the newbie considers themselves Expat 1.0 or 2.0. If they choose 2.0 then they can only see the bscw thread & anything that mentions Ballsack Lane or avocado toast? The remainder of the site can then remain 99% absolute bollocks where "1.0s" tear shreds off each other with cutting wit, banter and playground insults, and 1% reserved for some seriously good posts by K440 Illuminati.

Back in the '00'ties whenever the western embassies tried to gang up on the gov and apply pressure about human rights, keeping grant conditions or whatever - the power supply to the diplomatic quarter would mysteriously start shutting down at inconvenient times.

I think things were remarkably easier years ago, not harder. No wps, instant cheaper visas, less traffic, fewer hipsters, Language beer and stout was available Mekong whisky was 2500 riel/ bottle, entertainment was cheaper, Motodop from St 214 to Toul Kork was 2000 towel, pork and rice 2500 Riel, apartments way cheaper... How exactly do the know it all so claim life was harder?

I have no idea how you came to that wrong conclusion. You know those big orange boxes you see everywhere? They are for keeping food and drinks cool using ice, as are the big cupboard type things in people's homes, those use electricity to refrigerate.

I dont get people who are so worried about food poisoning in the region.
They strike me as more the beard grooming man bun, germaphobe, be careful of cats here, still taking malaria tablets expat 2.0's.
To me food poisoning = building up your immune system/tolerance.
You worry because you havent been over to the dark side on the shitter yet.
