Is there a forum war?
I don’t post much these days for obvious reasons - not being in Cambodia means I have less to say or contribute. But for what it’s worth i still find it by far the most interesting of the two largely because it has more gravitas and more posters whose views are worth reading.
What they have over there is more posters who are prepared to start threads that generate responses. I’ve never worked out why that is. I have a theory though that 440 stalwarts have been used to being entertained by much better threads historically and too many posters seem to sit back and let others start discussions. If everyone made more of an effort the forum would continue to thrive for many years to come. It’s trite, but forums need engaged members to thrive and that’s the responsibility of everyone.
I’ll get my coat.

Who and what is Cambodia News English?
For those of us who don't read Khmer, it's excellent.
I used to enjoy reading it on Cambod/Gonk's forum, but a big part of the morning would be discussing the news with Special Friend. She'd ask for a source so she could find it on a Khmer site but I couldn't give it because it was unattributed.

.we get plenty of that here, about womenLucky Lucan wrote: ↑Sat Apr 13, 2019 1:49 amI think it has a similar mix of conservatives and liberals as we have here. There's certainly a very vocal bunch of right-wing posters there. I don't mind, it's healthy for people to share their views. However, the worst thing about that forum is that a lot of the posters are extremely bigoted about Khmers. "Khmers are Cheats" , "Khmers all want to scam you", "Khmers are uneducated and have pea brains" etc are popular themes for some. A lot of dodgy opinions stated as facts, I fucking hate people who generalize about a whole population based on their limited crummy experiences.

Why is there the need for him and the site to constantly translate articles into English which really paint Cambodia in a bad light and for readers who are illinformed about Cambodia this just propagates negative stereotypes about the country.
This is a excellent example of why gonk is such a muppet he just loves feeling superior, is misogynistic and a all round bad egg

It looks like a deleted thread now. There are some people who come to different countries then want to change it to resemble their own. If they really loved living in their country so much there are plenty of airports around. Personally, I do not expect Asia to be like America. I do love my country but is has changed so much and has gotten so expensive I don't want to live there. I think most of Asia is great. I don't want to try to change their culture or try to make them more American. Cambodia is still a third world country. It is not perfect and I don't expect it to be. If I get there and don't like it as much as I liked the Philippines and Thailand I will move on, not complain about Cambodians being Cambodian.Fred Edwards wrote: ↑Sat Apr 13, 2019 4:43 amWhy is there the need for him and the site to constantly translate articles into English which really paint Cambodia in a bad light and for readers who are illinformed about Cambodia this just propagates negative stereotypes about the country.

Instead of /ToF.com/ you have to insert Cambodian expats online with no spaces.... Niether of the forums allow people to post links from each other.
This was something introduced first by Gonk , as he is a primadonna and didn't like people exposing him as the sycophant he is.
Oh my god I just had a nasty flashback of the times he would hang around me and make stupid noises like a tourette's sufferer but he called it beatbox.

It's a sphere here with a lot of insanity. If you are not a bit crazy already, this place will surely try to push you in that direction. What I cherish, is the beacon of longevity, the fact that someone has decided to call this their 'home' away from home, for more than the 3 years average. I see quite a few posters doing that here, and plenty of hang arounds providing useful infotainment. It's just less of a playground feel to me. even the BSCW thread is somewhat mature, despite it's ludicrousness.
Over and out.

Please let me know when and where you intend to do this, it would be fun to watch...and you would need witnesses, to claim on your medical insurance.

Should team up with the Cambodia News English, or start posting his stories here with links to his site.
Not sure who the CNE person is but I did hear some issues where he was making false claims against someone as part of a vendetta, I guess be careful about teaming up. No reason not to link a few articles though

I think the Cambodia News English site is fantastic. It catches lots of local news and uses some of its own reports to post very interesting stories from around the kingdom. It always links to any original sources, and the headlines are always hilarious. It's a shame when websites get so petty that they don't allow links to other relevant sites. I don't care whether the owners like each other or not.
