First time visitors must sees in PP
What do you think are the must do’s for a weekend trip to PP for first timers?
Palace, museum, S21, killing fields, markets. riverside walk. evening boat cruise. St 136 and 172 after midnight,,,and much more.

Without knowing what type of visitor you are, it's something of a subjective exercise, but try these.
Central Market; Wat Phnom; visit Vattanac building(?); Royal Palace; National Museum; Night market; Van's restaurant; St 104; Riverside generally..
These places are all close together in one area and obviously there's more to PP than these places. However, the rationale is, if you are in town for only a weekend trip, it seems sensible to be the intensive visitor over an extensive one.
All needs met. Food, entertainment, history, culture,
Beware urchins, barangs who talk too much and do not flash shiny things.

sunset cruise, relaxing on a riverboat with a cold beer and a BBQ serviced up, watching the lights of Phnom Penh from the river is quite awesome,
Get down and dirty with a nasty Vietnamese hooker, smoke loads of ice and listen to what the aircon unit has to say.
Interesting Rob.The best rock music I've ever heard was coming from the aircon unit.
I was zoned out . the music was brilliant. It was the greatest band on earth.
I was aware it wasn't real, but I could hear it, it was an amazing experience.
No hooker involved...True story.
sorry, off topic.

I was going to try the new public bus system, buses are plenty and the ones I see all have empty seats. Probably a great way to check out the place, before digging in.
Don't waste time waiting for an empty bus bro.
Splash some cash and hire a driver with car. Passapp, is good, and just order him for a day to go where you want, Its not expensive.

Check out the bat tree while you're at Wat Phnom.

It's a tree with the largest urban colony of Flying Foxes in the region. It's just opposite the main steps on the east of Way Phnom, in the garden of the Council for Development of Cambodia. That building was previously the French Governor's palace, a favorite meeting place for Pol Pot and later UNTAC HQ.

I was going to mention before that they may be flying foxes. My sister has a horse riding school in Lismore NSW, Aus, unfortunately the property has a colony of flying foxes and they are protected, but grazing horses can pick up the excrement from these bats while grazing and die from a Hendra virus, I believe a transmittable disease to humans.
A whole colony of these flying foxes, or bats, (protected by law)where destroyed near where I live because the property bred good race horses worth big money.
No investigation was forth coming, politicians own good race horses...nothing wrong with that. Life goes on.
Bats suck.

Never mind.
About the bands of Monkeys on 104. What is the best time for the show?
and while I'm at it, is it ok to ask... what about the nasty Vietnamese hookers?
