How does one open an Alipay account?
Does it only work here, or can I use in China too?
Alipay
You do it by googling 'alipay account for foreigners and reading the information and following the instructions.
There is a hidden restriction in side the Alipay and Wechat pay App . which is if You a Foreigners Account user (Non China Mainland resident ) who use Alipay or Wechat . Your Foreigners Alipay or Wechat verified account is Hundred percent works But there is a Regional restriction imposed you can only use exclusively to China Mainland Merchant .

I'm headed to China soon, and have WeChat, but am unable to set up a WeChat wallet. I had a friend send me money (like 10 yen), and it asked me to verify myself. I did this with passport information and a credit card. Then it asked for a Chinese mainland bank before I could proceed. Obviously, I don't have one.Beaker wrote: ↑Tue Jul 30, 2019 11:46 amYou do it by googling 'alipay account for foreigners and reading the information and following the instructions.

So I have verified my WeChat in part, but can't get money in. Any thoughts?
Hi - you can use WeChat for messaging and whatever but you have to link your WeChat Wallet to a Chinese bank account to receive money. As far as I know, you need a fixed police registered Chinese address to open a Chinese bank account so if you are just going as a tourist, you won't be able to open an account. If you are going there to study or work legally, no problem. The same most probably applies to Alipay because these are restrictions put in place by the state.
Hi - It's true that you don't need to carry cash but it is still accepted everywhere I've been and to the best of my knowledge throughout the country. China has a lot of old folks and rural migrant workers who don't use payment apps.
According to this, international credit cards are accepted by WeChat but you will need a mainland China phone number and a WeChat account installed in China. Also, there will be limitations to the account's functions that you need to be aware of: https://www.dragonsocial.net/blog/what- ... WhatWeChat
I can't vouch for this but it's worth a look.

That article is two years old and just says that those with Alipay accounts will be able to use it here. It’s probably the only smart move PiPay made.

Does anyone here use Alipay? I've seen many foreigners paying with Alipay in Cambodia. I had a client in China who wanted to pay me on Alipay, so I figured I'd try it and just use the money in Cambodia. Nope. Every time I scan the code it says my account only works in Mainland China. Yet, I'm sure I saw some white guys using Alipay... What's the trick?
Not sure why anyone would use this crap since the UI is utter garbage, a hilarious embarrassment and probably an indication of how far behind the Chinese actually are while pretending to be fancy and high tech--Westerners would never tolerate this rickety garbage app. The "english version" only includes a translation of the front page, everything else is in Chinese lol what a joke

He's probably got a very hot Chinese wife and some mixed race kids at home in Shanghai and was just visiting some whores whilst on "business".telescopic wrote: ↑Mon Jan 09, 2023 11:27 pmDoes anyone here use Alipay? Maybe you can ask your client in China to help you?
(Unless your client is Aliexpress)
