I left at 2 PM Friday, and took 60 meter rd south to NR2. I took it all the way 31, then to Kep. It took 3 in a half hours which included a 15 min coffee break.
NR2 is as it’s always been. Pavement is mostly fine, but a bit hectic to drive on (avoid when factories open or close). But no large trucks (there’s a 15ton limit). At the round about to head to 3 or continue on 2 to 31, I would normally go to 3, but for fuck’s sake tried 2. The road was great with not many cars.
Starting on 31 from 2 was fine, but then there was a few km patch that was gravel and not hard top. I was in my suv and the pot holes were limited and not a problem, but in a sedan I might have been a bit slower, the scenery on that stretch is beautiful with no other cars at all.
Didn’t make it to Kampot, just Kep. Will report back on my return leg. But, everyone was thinking we were crazy to drive to Kep for the weekend, but it was really fine.

Can I get an update from anyone? I'm thinking of going to Kampot for the weekend from PP.
The roads around Kep are super good for some reason. The road from PP to Kep have some spots with very bad pot holes. The rest is pretty dangerous. Best thing you can do is find a big truck and stay behind it. But who cares? Its not like you want to make it a daily commute.
Looks like 203 past Prey Lvea.OffRoader wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2019 9:43 amHow long does that take in a car?starkmonster wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2019 4:14 pmI've been doing it a lot recently. The most stress free route is 21, out past Saang, that road is a pretty much empty highway at the moment, the cut across to route 2 on the road the passes Chisor, this cuts out the last part of route 2 from Bati to Phnom Penh as that's quite often a traffic cluster fuck.
Then take 2 until 31, then finish the trip on 33 past Kep. The only bad bit of road is the last stretch from the Kep white horse roundabout until Kampot. Minimal traffic and pleasant scenery the whole way, it isn't any quicker and is more km's, but it's a semi enjoyable drive.
And which road do you exactly take from 21 to 2?

Yeah, good point. It's just another muddy hell-hole death trap. I don't understand how anyone can live outside of Phnom Penh.
The indignity of it all. The less of this kind of thing we have - the better!
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

National road 3 is still shit.
I went to Kampot via road 51 which was fine... But was a bit messy where 51 connects to NR2. Decided to come back by NR3 just to see how far along it is.
From about 20km outside PP it varies from adequate to shit. Traffic often is on wrong side of road due to various piles of stones, or equipment left blocking the road.
As one point when I was crawling along I saw a truck drive into a stationery truck about 50 meters ahead in the next lane. I can only guess the driver was watching a scantily clad seller on Facebook live... Suddenly all the workers appeared to observe and traffic stopped as all drivers wanted to be sure they didn't miss anything.
At no part... As far as I could see... is it finished and parts are as bad as they were a couple of years back.
The speed of work isn't a great advert for Cambodian efficiency.

If you go down to Kampot today, you better not use Road 3
