So, some good news. We have started to have one or two ex-staff return from Sihanoukville having lost their jobs down there. They tell me that half of the Chinese have already left, a result of the online casinos being forced to close. One chap who just lost his job tells me his wife - fluent Chinese speaker and fairly well educated - will lose her gig in December, so it would seem that the recession is not over.
What are the chances that we can have a civilised holiday there like we used to in the near future? Or shall we once again be off to Thailand for Christmas this year?

Of course I don't take anything a single person tells me as the gospel truth. That's partly why I am posting here. I'm interested to hear what others make of it.

I loved the place for 2years. lots of weed, the ba was a dollar. blue mountain was dirty deeds done dirt cheap, the german cunt at freedom bar was the only cunt in town..
Bamboo Shack and Papa Johns, and the French dude rented boats cats on Otres that's all.. it . was deserted. Spent many a day out a PJ's . it was so quiet, no noise quiet apart from the small waves lapping on the beach 10metres away.. ask Bonez.

That place always had the smell of danger to me, as well as feces. So haven't been there since forever, choosing the more peaceful Kep instead.
Firstly, the online licences are still valid (there’s even reports of Jin Bei just being issued it’s first licence valid till August 2020) secondly this whole load of poop was started by CNE quoting one blogger and since then it’s been repeated by various media sources.
All of them quote an official that ‘6000 Chinese are leaving per day but a similar amount are arriving’ but people don’t actually read the article just the ‘Exodus’ headline.
Secondly. It’s a big Chinese holiday.
Thirdly. SIhanoukville is flooded. (So I’d want to get away for a bit too)
Fourthly. It’s low season.
Etc.
Sure things are changing (for the better) but don’t expect a return to the ‘good ol days’ and don’t wish an exodus because it’ll effect locals more than expats.
I see that ex admin on TOF frothing his nonsense.
It’ll be slow until after Chinese New Year.
(I’d move back once they fix the infrastructure. So if ‘they’ leave I’m not personally bothered but I doubt it after throwing billions into buildings)

Chinese yuan at an 11 year low.
Trade war with U.S. Fight to the bottom with what global area can get the lowest interest rates.
Trade between China and the KOW amounts to $6 billion, with nearly 90% of that being Chinese exports to Cambodia.
Over 60% of foreign residents in Cambodia are Chinese.
Quote;
"Chinese workers are, in most cases, offered a higher wage than Cambodians, experts say. Sophal Ear, an associate professor at Occidental College in the United States, told DW that there is growing concern over Chinese domination of the local economy.
Sophal said Chinese investment, despite boosting economic growth, has had a negative impact as a significant portion of the money has gone into casinos and real estate, which facilitate financial crimes and money laundering.
Some Cambodian officials admit that not all is well with the influx of Chinese immigrants.
Cambodia's National Police website quoted Sok Phal, a secretary of state in the Interior Ministry, as saying that of the Chinese nationals living in the country, over 78,000 reside in Preah Sihanouk province and only 20,000 have work permits. The ministry has said that from 2014 until the end of July, more than 2,700 Chinese nationals were deported"
