the problem is, that we can't undo the technology (other than an apocolypse as some feel may have happened long ago).The problem with regulating technology is that lawmakers are not in control. Technology doesn’t care what the law says, it just exists and continues to develop.
Now we have reached a point in history where hardware is cheap and powerful enough for it to be available to the masses. Anybody with a $1000 graphics card and some cameras can do it.
So, how do we deal with it?
Some say if we regulated (legalised) marijuana then there would be less criminal activity. I don't think we can extrapolate that to technology though.
We are in interesting times.
