I think everyone has, whether or not they have the wherewithal to realise it. For some people, it manifests as misery. For others, rage, or even petty irritation.

Oh come on. We are talking about mental illness, not people being pissed off or irritable about something. That’s not depression. It’s the opposite. It’s finding personal ways of dealing with the ups and downs of normal life.

It's the same questionable faculty. You go 'measure' a quadrillion neurons, perhaps with an e-meter?Dallow Spicer wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2019 5:55 pmYou're conflating psychology with psychiatry. Two very different things.
Clearly a few serious nutcases at various institutions, stemming from extreme neglegt, and has to be put in a padded cell, or perhaps send them on a one way ticket to Mondulkiri?
Oh Christ alive. 440 now has a Scientologist posting. We’ve reached new depths.

That's the thing - being pissed off or irritable about a particular issue is one thing. Being pissed off or irritable about minor grievances, on a regular basis, is normally a manifestation of a depressive episode.Dallow Spicer wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2019 7:27 pmStarving Pelican wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2019 7:17 pmI think everyone has, whether or not they have the wherewithal to realise it. Not sure about mental illness being the cause. I think Cambodia certainly has a higher rate of drug addicts, criminals, losers and drunks in the barang population compared to their western homeland.
That’s strongly influenced by the ability to hold a TEFLer job here even when being a complete screwup, whereas in their home country they would be jobless. The ability to stretch money for them on .50 beers attracts the lowlifes.

With very good reason, Mr Spicer, you have your defence mechanisms buttoned pretty tight. I genuinely hope one of those buttons never pops off.
All I can say is don't take mental health for granted. Like pulling a muscle the worst can happen to anybody at any time.

Jesus fucking Christ Jep - put a sock in it.
I’m trying to breath some life into the forum by starting threads that might engage people.
Perhaps I shouldn’t bother. Perhaps it’s best to let you and batty bury it under the mediocrity of your insane and asinine interjections on every single fucking subject.

Are you suggesting those types are more prone to mental illness than others?
And is it mental illness, or just the fact that they’re misfits and dropouts and that the self destructive behaviour they exhibit is not mental Illness as such but instead is just the usual asshattery that they would display in the U.K. or Sydney or whereever they come from?
In other words - is it being an expat that provides other stresses and strains to make you ill, or are the conditions already there? And do the unique conditions of being an expat in Cambodia increase or decrease those strains?
That’s what I was trying to get at with this thread before people started to provide amateurish online assessments of my own fucking health.
