Expat Mental Health
I checked with my mother, she says I'm fine. Thanks for asking though.

You’re conflating crazy with mentally ill. They are two different things.RobW wrote: ↑Thu Oct 10, 2019 10:25 pmWell, Spicer, as you struggle to admit you missed the crazy times. In the '90s here everyone was fucking crazy by popular definition. My particular set are all dead bar a couple though I did meet Felgerkarb one evening in Martini and he's as sane as can be these days.
I do wonder if you suffer from mental angst yourself, as most do from time to time, as this subject is a refrain of yours and you are in fact a sensitive and kind man.
Don't know where I'm going with this but I'd say nutters are disproportionately attracted to the country. Jung wrote much about this thing - something about identifying with inner demons and the attraction to their reflection in the reality of outer demons.. Can't be bothered to look it up and reference it.
Night.
It’s a refrain of mine, as you say, because it’s something I think of often. I’m not suggesting every expat is mentally ill - stop being so precious. I’m asking if there is a mental health crisis amongst expats. Is depression prevalent for example? Or paranoia? I’m guessing most of us could sit down and identify two or three of our friends whose mental health we worry about.
Perhaps they say the same of us. I dunno.

I only have 6 close friends who are sane now,...the rest of them all arrived home dazed and confused/ Cambodia chewed them up and spat 'em out,

I'm not ashamed to admit that I've fought the Black Dog my entire life but at least now we can talk to friends about it.Dallow Spicer wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2019 1:44 pmYou’re conflating crazy with mentally ill. Our grandfathers went to the Great War and for those that came back I think they suffered till the day they died but couldn't talk about it.
It gets easier when you just learn to accept that the blues come and the blues go. At least for most they go. For those poor souls for whom they don't it's a ghastly thing.

The whole matter is entirely subjective. Psychology is a pseudo science, mostly created by women.

You're conflating psychology with psychiatry. Two very different things.
I don't think psychology has ever claimed to be a science. It's treatment based on counselling, so by definition has no scientific basis.
Psychiatry clearly is a science, as they are trained medical doctors who prescribe medication which have a measurable and identifiable impact on our neurological systems.
