My nephew in law has been living in Cambodia for around the last 8 months. He is a NZ citizen and has lived most of his life in NZ however hes not the most proactive when it comes to his health.
I've heard rumours on the grapevine that he has been unwell since he has been living in Cambodia, however yesterday I've heard that he has been diagnosed with what I can only assume is a very aggressive form of cancer. My wife has been a nurse for 15 years in NZ but can't make head nor tails of what passes for his discharge summary. He was discharged from a hospital in Battambang after the removal of a large tumour under his armpit with no pain medication or antibiotics but the instruction to go to Phnom Penh for treatment. He currently has a secondary infection on his hand with obviously necrotic tissue, a fever and has been having seizures.
I've been in touch with the NZ high commission who have been in contact with him via the embassy in Thailand however I don't think he understands the gravity of the situation he is in. He has managed to get Phnom Penh and has been to a hospital (though no one has any clue which one) where he had wait most of the day to be seen and was told to return in a couple of weeks for chemotherapy.... and to wash his hands.
I have searched the forums and google and from what I've been tell Calmette or Sen Sak hospitals are the only hospitals in the country with oncology departments. What we need is a formal assessment and diagnosis of his condition and from there we can look at the options whether treatment or medical repatriation. Unfortunately with NZ closing the border again thanks to the barnyard of infected idiots overwhelming our quarantine facilities I don't see the latter being an option until at least late August.
I know its a bit of a long shot but does anyone have any advice or information that may help in this situation?

Does he have health insurance?
I believe Thailand has been allowing people to enter for medical reasons. PSD_Kiwi please correct me if I’m wrong.

obviously the appointment at oncology is in a couple of weeks so thats the next step.
go for chemo and wash his hands too so thats to keep the nasties off.
unless you can get in earlier for chemo then in a couple of weeks is the next best option.

My experience with Calmette is, you can walk in in the early morning without appointment and have everything "done" by the mid-afternoon (that was not for cancer things though). And they tend to be cheap (compared to Western hospitals). Pretty efficient there and for those who need it, they have guides to walk you from one location to the other.
On the other hand, based on your description and if the cancer is indeed aggressive, it might be far to late now for any successful treatment ..... On the other hand, if he is still walking around with symptoms like this, it might not be that aggressive at all.
