He's back on Germany and doing OK last I heard.
I won't be in country for a couple of weeks but i know someone should knows and will ask them for you. Could you send me a reminder by PM?
Thanks
Naked Westerner passed out in front of Butterfly Bar
Some years ago I was instrumental in fixing a big problem for Andy.
A friend had encountered a lady of the night who was in possession of a leather valise containing all manner of documents: insurances, leases, title deeds, vehicle registrations, bank cards, IDs and more. He persuaded her to let him have an Amex card and ID in the names of Andreas... but the penny hadn't dropped. She insisted on keeping the rest.
When I saw the photo I recognised Andy and we went to the bistrot with what we had, suggesting that he could get the rest back for a payment of around $30 to the lady. Andy was very appreciative and agreed.
He had taken her to a club (Holiday ? Manhattan ? Excuse my ageing memory, the noisy place frequented by Viets) and had checked his valise and she ended up with the ticket and left before him, something like that. As to why he was carrying his documented life around with him while drunk out of his mind ?
Andy offered us coffees for our trouble and said very generously Come back any night and take anything you want from the menu.
My friend called the girl and we waited for more than an hour for her to arrive so we could mediate. As soon as he saw her Andy freaked and made to attack her, potentially queering the deal. We finally managed to bring her back and he got his stuff, cheap at the price.
Later, mid-week we went back for dinner. Andy wasn't there but the female manager called him and he gave us carte blanche.
We each had an aperitif and ordered t-bone steaks and a bottle of some cheap George DuBoeuf varietal. After a pause the manageress came back and said He says you can't have the wine because you ordered expensive steaks.
Either you give or you don't give. I paid for the wine. The meal was mediocre at best.
Andy's documented history was quite interesting. As noted, he was ethnically Polish. Regarding his alcoholism and mental problems, he had a very, very tough time as a young teen, not so long after the war, when it was necessary to do anything to survive. In many ways he was a broken person not unlike some who survived the KR, came back from Vietnam, or were trafficked through K11.

The miracle of keeping a diary tells me this happened in November 2006. And that the wine was a trashy Merlot and $16.

Isn’t this the guy that was protected by ghosts?
I have a vague memory of him getting a little punchy, probably around 51, with his pants down, but nobody kicking his bare ass because he was protected by ghosts.

I met Andy 3 times. (2018-2019)
Alcoholism at its best.
Know the guy, who was trying to estimate the worth of his arts collection. Worthless, no certificates or just worthless.
That time, the staff was making a bit of profit out of the restaurant, I would say.
Especially his Khmer manager. Wow, that was a scary guy..
I think, Andy was saved by some other Germans in PP, finally.
