Bloody oath it did. From what KiR said, if he doesn't stay in jail he will end up dead if he doesn't leave cambo. Leaving the country is probably the best thing for him. He did put himself in this mess but i hope it works out for him because of his son.Heinrich manoeuvre wrote:Lady luck smiled on him in one weird sort of way.
It's interesting that the lynchers were from his neighbourhood..sounds unusual...can anyone shed some light on this? Did he continually piss them off, or is it normal to lynch neighbourhood people, especially for domestic violence? or did being a barang not help?

I always thought that Domestic violence was violence within a domestic (ie living) situation. Within a work situation it is just pure violence .. any half way decent law graduate should know that!Starving Pelican wrote:, or is it normal to lynch neighbourhood people, especially for domestic violence? or did being a barang not help?
I sounds like he was acting like a rabid out of control dog; usually they get put down; probablly what the neghbours were trying to do.
One thing about living in Cambodia is that you need your friends, especially when you get into trouble....
He is reaping what he has sown especially in respect to help ....

Lynch mobs are always from the neighborhood. Being a barang, in the case of attacking a Khmer, will certainly not help. It's interesting that the lynchers were from his neighbourhood..sounds unusual...can anyone shed some light on this? haha, ya cheeky bastard. well he did live at the bar, and i think she did too, so the violence did occur in a 'domestic' setting ( unless he hit her downstairs at the bar and not upstairs in his lair..hehe). KiR commented the victim was brickman's 'female employee/girlfriend' so i figured khmers would see her as his missus.LaudJohn wrote: I always thought that Domestic violence was violence within a domestic (ie living) situation. he is still wired after 24 hours? did you see him yourself KiR? he mustve been doing a ton of the meth...especially given the tolerance build-up over the past few years...

The neighbors have had it in for the guy for some time now. I know someone from the Sangkat there who told me months ago that they were photographing the goings on there in the hopes of forcing a bust and dislodging him from the neighborhood. Nothing ever came of that since the rumors of an intl cartel they were operating under were ridiculous lies spread by some disgruntled and demented bar slag.Starving Pelican wrote:

Crystal Meth isn't like regular amphetemines or coke and it'll be a while longer before Brickman gets sweaty and start clucking.
My own fear about this shameful incident is the way it will feed into to a growing sense of anger and all round fed-upness on the part of Khmers towards expats. Running this idea past a '12 years in Cambodia' expat today over lunch he disagreed and told me that FAR WORSE happened way back then. I'm sure there where some freaky goings on, but there were much less expats then so it happened less often and was less apparant and in ya face to the average Khmer.
In the space of the last two weeks and on basically the same block, we've seen two unforgivable incidents of Expat on Khmer aggression (the other being those two Bo*gie and B*acall clowns knifing a tuk tuk driver's seats) and I just worry where all this is going to lead.

Im glad to hear the girl is OK. Is it Ned or Lyn?
Im gonna contact the embassy staff and go and visit him and see if he needs help. If anyone else wants to come along, let me know. At the end of the day, the guy needs some help and I guess he can get back to his old self after returning home and getting away from all the things that brought him to where he is today.

I agree with Hanky. I don't know Peaceman, but the rumor of him taking voluntary deportation seems the least believable part of all of this. He's lived in Cambodia for ten years, right? He's raising a child here, and I suspect someone in his situation would not have prospects back in England. At least in Cambodia he can always teach English.hanky wrote: I somehow doubt that the guy has any intention of going back to Europe.
Mobs cool down. At most, I would say he closes down Broken Bricks, lays low for a few months, then tries to re-open a new bar in a different neighborhood. Of course, I still like the idea of him staying put and re-naming the bar "Broken Arms."

Could anyone with information on who is currently looking after Hengy please contact me via PM immediately?
Dave is being transferred to immigration detention tomorrow and will be deported shortly. Obviously its very important that the embassy gets in touch with Hengy immediately as there are concerns for both he and Davids safety.
Thanks.

If he returns to Europa, he can clean himself up and become the manager of a bar, or at least work in one. For all his issues, he appeared to know how to run a bar, as long as he is clean i guess.gavinmac wrote:He's lived in Cambodia for ten years, right?
