$120 a month for 6 hours a day six days a week isn't bad, right? 36 hours a week, 4.5 weeks a month, that comes 162 hours a month. 74 cents an hour.
They also want one hostess who can work ten hours a day, six days a week, for $130 a month. That's 48 cents an hour, a much worse deal.
Hostesses also get commission on any drinks customers buy them, typically $1.50. Plus tips from customers, plus often bonuses for reaching drinks targets.
So a reasonable hostess might earn $120 salary plus $150 drinks commissions plus $10 bonus plus $50 tips. Total $330.
And the odd hostess has been known to leave the bar with a customer having independently negotiated a financial agreement to spend some time with him.
