Hi All,
My name is AJ, I have been living in SE Asia for a few years now and in Phnom Penh for about 10 months. I love it here!!!
I am now looking to get involved in some business ventures; basically I want to be involved in something that I am passionate about, something I enjoy doing every day and something that is profitable enough to sustain an enjoyable and happy lifestyle in Phnom Penh.
In other words I am here looking to 'live the dream'!!
I am open to other suggestions but my current plans are as follows:
1. The purchase and long term lease of an already successful/ profitable Phnom Penh guesthouse, bar & restaurant in a great location (subject to due dilligence of course).
2. The development of a motorbike/ motorscooter rental company. IMO this sector is failing miserably and I have a few good ideas that would allow us to gain market share very quickly.
I have the capital and the motivation to get this going on my own but would much prefer to partner with a like-minded individual in a similar position to myself.
This is what I am looking for in a Partner:
- Must have cash money to invest, ideally on a 50/50ish basis - I have about 30-50K at my disposal. No time wasters thanks.
- Must be motivated, really motivated, and bloody willing to do whatever it takes to live the dream.
- Ideally someone with a background or experience in the hospitality or tourism secors. But absolutely must be an outgoing people person.
If you match the above criteria and would be keen to discuss this further then please feel free to get in touch with me via pm or by responding to this post.
Regards,
AJ.

what have you been doing in those 10 months? have you tried to deal with locals already and that something was not in their favour?
I'm sorry... I don't understand what you are trying to say?Russia4life wrote:what have you been doing in those 10 months? have you tried to deal with locals already and that something was not in their favour?

Yes... my offer is legit. Although I've been here long enough to understand your skepticism.

AJ, as you've been in Phnom Penh for about 10 months now, I'm surprised that you haven't had any luck in meeting someone that you could get involved with for this. I don't mean some random bloke in a girlie bar that you've chatted up, but in all seriousness I would think that it's very easy to find a similar minded individual for this.
Just taking a guess, and I could be wrong, but you sound on the younger side (30ish instead of 60ish). You should try going to the Nerd Night events, some of the different incubator/start up events, and other social outings (hiking or biking groups, networking events, trivia nights, etc), and I'm sure that you'll not only meet a lot of people that have experiences to share, but perhaps be better situated in meeting someone to work with.
Good luck!

Join Eurocham or something. Lots serious people in suits attend and am sure would entertain you.
However bar business is not for faint hearted inexperienced types. Disaster area for many.
Bike rental same - overheads can be high with purchase of reliable bikes, spares, on going maintenance and low season lack of customers.
If you do come up with a good idea you can be pretty sure that every Khmer within a km or so will be watching and learning. Before you know it you will have competitors who will do what you do cheaper. Maybe not same quality but a facsimile and most importantly cheaper. See what I'm getting at? You'll do the spadework and if the locals see it working then you may as well pack up shop. Look at the streets where every business is photocopying or pharmacy or moneylending.
