Business card ap
Does anyone use an Ap on your smartphone to keep track of business cards? I would like to download one (preferably a free one). Any recs?
Why would the majority of expats need one?
You really are disconnected with your flock.
Wine fridge, watch winders and now business card organiser.
Oh you kill me.

I think that a lot of expats (and Cambodians too) would need it - I see business cards handed around all the time. Also, even if not 100% of people need it, I need it so I asked for myself.YaTingPom wrote:Why would the majority of expats need one?

Wine fridge is essential in this climate. Watch winder was my predecessor, for the record, and not me.

I used one previously but it was crap. It just took photos of the card and tried to OCR the text. Khmer fonts ballsed it up and I had to input data manually for most cards.
I gave up using it after a month.

I just use the business card to connect with that person* on LinkedIn & then discard**. Even if you had an app to scan & collect the data in a cool way, those people will move jobs within months/years & your little app/database will be out of date soon enough. I hate LinkedIn with a vengeance, but it is a necessary evil.

I'm feeling left out,
The only people that give me business cards are friends of Jamie.
And I only took them out for conversation practice of the Khmer language.

I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.

Exactly why I'm asking. I don't want to go through the hassle with a shitty ap I'll stop using in a month. I'm sure there's at least one good one out there to use.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote:I used one previously but it was crap. It just took photos of the card and tried to OCR the text. I used CamCard free for a while, seems to work OK.
Don't know what the difference between the free version and professional version is.
https://www.camcard.com/
Edit:
-> Free version limited to 200 cards,
-> Professional version seems to be currently discounted to $0.99

“Evernote makes it easy for you to remember more about the people you meet. The business card camera captures the clearest possible images of your business cards and saves everything into a contact note including:
Name, title, company, and additional contact info
An image of the card
A photo of the person and LinkedIn profile information (when available)
Business card scanning is an Evernote Premium feature.
Basic and Plus users can get 1 year of business card scanning for free when they connect Evernote and LinkedIn.”

I use a contact manager called Full Contact. It can sync address books across multiple accounts, scrape contact info form email footers. It will also scrape additional contact info from online sources such as LinkedIn (not always correctly but updates are shown to you for approval.) It scans cards too, they use human transcription so it takes about 30 mins for a card to be added (two people check each card for added accuracy). You only get 10 scanbs with the free version though. You can compare the free vs paid here: https://www.fullcontact.com/apps/pricing/
