Anything Similar to Murray's Place near Riverside?

Postby 1st Sgt Welsh » Thu May 26, 2016 1:58 pm

Hi everyone,

It looks like I'll be moving to Phnom Penh in July and the title of the thread pretty much says it all. I'd like to be able to book and move straight into a serviced apartment while I get myself established. I know there are plenty of guest houses, but I'd prefer an apartment for a monthly rent. Murray's Place (which is advertised on this website) looks ideal except that I'd like to be initially in a touristy area and close, ideally walking distance, to amenities. I don't want to sign a lease or pay a bond until I've sussed out the market and worked out where I'd like to be. Anyway, that's in a perfect world and perhaps it won't be possible, but If you have any suggestions then please let me know. Many thanks!

Thanks horace. Just checked the Lux website out. The apartments look lovely, but, they are quite a bit more than I want to spend. I had in mind about $450 a month (sorry, probably should have said that in my original post).

It's hard to find a good short term serviced apartment for $15 a night near the Riverside.

Just a thought. Try airbnb.

As GM said. You will be lucky to find a serviced apt for that price near the riverfront; but you should be ok in a cheap hotel. Try the Amari, next door almost to the Lux.

Murrays is decent and well priced and only a couple of bucks away on a moto.
Note to self: Must be nice to morons.

What do you mean by that? Looking at the map on the Murray's Place website, it's a fair distance between the Riverside and their apartment block.

If you're prepared to walk that far and back in order to, let's say, get a decent cup of coffee in a nice Riverside cafe then more power to you. However, I doubt I would be.

I can't think of any places on Riverside that has good coffee. Murray's is wishing walking distance of Russian Market which has coffee options, and a dollar on a moto from BKK1. There are also numerous good places for coffee in the streets on and off Mao Tse Tung Boulevard. The closest Brown, for example, is easily walkable.

Thanks Alan. I do appreciate a good coffee 8-). To be honest, I don't know Phnom Penh that well. I've been there a few times (used to live in Vietnam) and always just stayed at the Riverside. I just remember it as being a pretty easy neighbourhood to get around and to find stuff. I just thought it would be a hassle free place to start with as I'm literally finishing one job, flying in, and then starting a new job. Not ideal but that's the way the dates have worked out.

Try Cadillac bar. Smack on riverfront. The top floor apartment used to be 500 usd.
