Apartment on 264, Wat Botum for Rent.
Apartment on 264, Wat Botum for Rent.
Perfectly ok place. Two beds, basically furnished with hard furniture etc.
Two bathrooms, two floors. Ground and first/large mezzanine.
Bit of outside space out the back and shared front courtyard with landlady and her family. They are cool and unobtrusive.
Great street with loads of little restaurants, mom & pop stores etc. Very little traffic and no bastard construction. Right next door to Quita Penas, which looks to have closed down.
All I can say is I'm paying 300 but I think she wants more. Don't be bothering me. You can call the landlady on 099230222. 086558887. Khmer only.
If you like the area the place is really ok.
Available from 8th May. I'm fine with people coming to look round. She'll hopefully give me enough notice to roll any dead hookers in carpets and dump outside.

When and had a look, seems a decent street and place from the outside, got my Cambodia girlfriend to call up and the owner is now asking for $450 a month only a 50% increase, what is wrong with these people?

It's in a great location and I believe the price has been relatively low for years, so I guess they are finally raising it.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
I don't think she'll get that. Unless you really want it let her sweat for a bit and pay her 300. That was already 100 more than the previous tenant paid.Rocket wrote:When and had a look, seems a decent street and place from the outside, got my Cambodia girlfriend to call up and the owner is now asking for $450 a month only a 50% increase, what is wrong with these people?
The guy upstairs is going in a month too and I don't think they are all that swanky rich.

That's no way to talk about your girlfriend just because she is building in a 50 point cut for herself.
Right. As an addendum it's probably only fair to prospective tenants to tell you how the story ended.
When it came to return the deposit time, the woman was pretty cool asking for 11 dollars to cover cleaning, which we thought very fair.
Half wit husband then got involved and said he had decided to retain the entire deposit.
It got very ugly and special friend went full Luca Brasi on the cunt as three goons with iron bars explained either the deposit or his brains would be on the table imminently.
It wasn't prettyand I didn't enjoy it.
I maintain the landlady is a decent woman. Watch out for the idiot tuk tuk driver who has insinuated his way into her life though.

So if I'm understanding correctly, you got the deposit back in the end, right? And no one sleeps with the fishes?RobW wrote:Right. As an addendum it's probably only fair to prospective tenants to tell you how the story ended.

I've rented 6 houses here and have never had any issue with full deposit return at the end of contract.
I think it's worthwhile asking some questions about the landlord as part of the decision making process.
I couple of places we liked we ended up not taking because we didn't feel that we could fully trust the landlord.

It surprises me that more landlords don't tell tenants to fuck right off. Usually landlords are richer than tenants, there's no rule of law in Cambodia, the tenant probably isn't going to sue them, why not come up with some excuse to retain the deposit every time?ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote:I've rented 6 houses here and have never had any issue with full deposit return at the end of contract.

Yeah, I've wondered about that before.gavinmac wrote:It surprises me that more landlords don't tell tenants to fuck right off. Only things I can think of is the fact that it is a buyers market and especially with foreigners the landlord is keen for existing tenants to introduce new tenants.
And also, maybe, the belief in Karma.
