Hello.
I am told that there is no real estate agency that will show people apartments or condo units for a rental stay between 4 - 6 weeks. I am arriving in Phnom Penh on Saturday morning and am only looking for a short stay rental in the city to give me time to find the place I will stay in 12-24 months after that but no agent will take me seriously. I have no desire to stay in a hotel or guesthouse but also need the time to settle and decide where I want to set base.
Anyone have any ideas on this? Is hiring a tuktuk to drive me around the city to find something the only option I have? What are the benefits or perils of doing this? Does anyone have experience with AirBnB in the city?
Also, if anyone has idea of any bars that I can hear some western music over the weekend it would be nice.. I have had nothing but infernal religious caterwauling and chants for the last 8 months.

There are numerous serviced apartments around, but not particularly cheap. Try Season Residence or Google Green Mansion for a starting point.

You can try Airbnb, I actually know that my apartment building and the one next door rent out empty rooms on it, but at an inflated price ofc. Rates for 2 weeks is what I pay per month.

Thanks kindly Cardiguy I actually took your advise and booked thru AirBnB.
Not sure what you meant by inflated pricing but it is cheap super easy to use and the expat owner seems friendly. Did you get burned by a high price on AirBnb or is your comment just conjecture

No. That's fact. I have an apartment and when I look at the places on Airbnb my building lists the empty apartments for an inflated price on what I pay. Easy to understand I think. It's a very common practice with Airbnb worldwide, owners need to justify short term rentals with higher rates.TheFuzzyDuck wrote:Thanks kindly Cardiguy I actually took your advise and booked thru AirBnB.

But are you on long term contract? Of course short term you pay higher price. And you have to remember that Airbnb price incl. electricity, water, gas etc. which your contract most likely doesn't include.Gardiguy wrote:You can try Airbnb, I actually know that my apartment building and the one next door rent out empty rooms on it, but at an inflated price ofc. I was just replying to the fact that rentals on Airbnb are more expensive. Not agreeing or disagreeing that it is right or wrong. Yes, I am on a long term contract and yes everything is included except electricity. On Airbnb in some countries you can be charged separately for electricity as well on stays longer than 7 days, Philippines and Columbia are 2 off the top of my head.rogerrabbit wrote:But are you on long term contract? I use AirBnb fairly frequently, depends on the length of stay, and it is quite commonplace to charge utilities separately where power prices are at a premium, recent stays in Cape Verde and Nicaragua are examples.Gardiguy wrote:rogerrabbit wrote:On Airbnb in some countries you can be charged separately for electricity as well on stays longer than 7 days, Philippines and Columbia are 2 off the top of my head.Gardiguy wrote:You can try Airbnb, I actually know that my apartment building and the one next door rent out empty rooms on it, but at an inflated price ofc. simply always tell them you want to stay longer but you have to go back for work after ... weeks... always works.. if they ignore pester them a few more times and often they say ok ok .. but they just want to be sure first that they can not squeeze you for 3 months deposit and 1 year contract..
